1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By Sid Nuncius TOP 100 REVIEWER on July 10, 2012
I think this is an immensely enjoyable disc. It is of music for two harpsichords by some of the finest composers for the instrument of the 18th Century: Schaffrath, Roux, Couperin, Soler and three Bachs - JS, CPE and JC. All the music is excellent; it is varied, intricate, sometimes passionate and sometimes very beautiful.

The performers are a Belgian duo, and although Guy Penson was familiar to me as an ensemble player but I had not heard of Jan Devlieger before. Both are excellent here, with superb technique and a real ability to make the music shine. The first bars of the opening track on the disc let you know you are in good hands. They are full of passion and energy and they really make you sit up and take notice, and tender and thoughtful moments are equally well done. The sound of the two harpsichords is rich and lovely and beautifully recorded.

With good, informative notes and attractive presentation, this is an excellent disc all round. It deserves wider attention, and I recommend it very warmly.
