3.0 out of 5 stars FIRST Impression Only; will Follow Up, March 22, 2008
This review is from: 19-Inch Acer TFT Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor (Electronics)
Coming from experience with CRT monitors only, I write this review with trepidation as it is very likely ME that isn't well enough acquainted with this type of monitor.
If anyone else has this monitor and has some suggestions, please add your thoughts. Thanks!
First of all, although when I attempt to set my resolution to the specified 1440 x 900, it simply refuses to do so.
Now, I thought this could be due to the fact that my PC doesn't have the capability for this but then I wondered why it was "offered" in the settings if it dodn't...?

It took me some time to fiddle with the EXTREMELY difficult to see buttons on the panel to make adjustments....(couldn't they have added an LED to the buttons or even some WORDS under almost impossible to see or manipulate sliver like controls?).
The BRIGHTNESS was overwhelming...even after many adjustments. The CONTRAST adjusting didn't help much....
however, eventually...(no thanks to a manual that comes in a million languages (TWO books worth), but has only one page (and not double sided) of information on setting up the monitor.
Yes, it has an "auto" adjustment but after locating that tiny sliver button as well, it didn't really help either.
Finally, I discovered on my own that it offered (as well) an option to set it to TEXT, GRAPHICS, MOVIE, or STANDARD, and I found TEXT to be the best option.

It's the FONTS on my screen now that are the biggest problem for me. Being WIDELY spread out, which I can deal with , as being over 40, every little bit helps, lol, still, they're faded and light and hard to see. It reminds me of the print we used to see come off those old printers with perforated edges....just not crisp and bold.
This is a real problem for me, as I'm a photographer and a writer and the reason I bought this screen was to attain a more realistic clarity of the graphics and to be able to read and write my next book without so much eye strain that one gets from a CRT monitor.

Again, perhaps it's ME and I plan to work on this as much as possible today and throughout the weekend to see what I can do to improve the font problem.

I also think that, for some strange reason, the monitor needed "time" to "break in" as the graphics seem better today (second day) and not so washed out...who knows...not sure about that one....

I'm feeling pretty certain that there are specific fonts to use with a widescreen, as this IS A WIDE SCREEN, and I've never used a widesscreen....
OK.Will be back after more efforts at tweaking.
***Please read my follow up comments. I would ~now~ , weeks later, rate this monitor TWO STARS at best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy, June 7, 2008
This review is from: 19-Inch Acer TFT Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor (Electronics)
I've used this monitor now for about 9 months, I plan on getting another exactly the same so I can play World In Conflict a little better. I read the reveiw left by the other individual, and want to issue some advice:

I do computer repair for a living, and you need to run the resolution at either 1440 x 900, or another acceptable widescreen resolution. The problem the other individual was experiencing was because he didn't have a graphics card capable of such a high resolution, (most likely onboard video).

Anyone with any 256MB or higher graphics card will be very happy with this monitor.
