electro lo-fi Punk Rock, April 26, 2005
This review is from: 19 Million Ac (Audio CD)
A fine slab of Punk that ranges from The Ramones to the "KBD" sound that is so hip with record collectors. Throw in a Devo type of quirkyness via organ, keyboard or synth, make up catchy and thuggishly dumb lyrics and you have a winner.
Had this come out in 1978 I would have loved it, having it come out now just proves the longivity of real Punk Rock. Fun for fun's sake, racket for the sheer joy of it and these folks wear costumes as well.

A Happy Mess, May 13, 2005
This review is from: 19 Million Ac (Audio CD)
The Spits like to define their music as punk for the people, and that's a very apt description. These misfits are more dorky than menacing, and that's what makes them unique. The music is an unusual hybrid of raw Ramones, hardcore Devo and some sounds from the underground you probably can't put your finger on, while the lyrics cover topics from bugs and bibles to anything else you can imagine. What else would you expect from a band that often wears Reagan masks and costumes on stage?
19 Million AC is billed as a re-release of the band's EP of the same name, but technically it isn't really an EP as it includes 4 songs from the original 7" plus 14 bonus tracks (yes, really). Most of these songs clock in at under 2 minutes a la the Ramones and include an interesting mix of the strange and stranger, including a frenetic cover of GG Alin's "Drink Fight & F**k."
The recording quality is spotty in places, but it's something you won't mind overlooking because this CD is just a happy, dumb mess that you'll play again and again.
