Editorial Reviews

Product Description
The Follow up to Naughty's classic Self titled debut in 1991, 19NaughtyIII showed the world that Treach, Vin Rock and Kay Gee were not 1 hit wonders but in fact a force to be reckoned with. The Album spawed one of the biggest hits of 1993 Hip Hop Hooray. The video was directed by Spike Lee and featured other hip-hop artists popular in the early 1990s, including Queen Latifah, Eazy-E, Run-D.M.C., and Kris Kross. Naughty by Nature was always appreciated as being one of the only rap groups in history to be able to keep a grimey street sound while at the same time crossing over to the mainstream crowd. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sophomore Jinx I Don't Think So........, January 29, 2006
By Amparo Acosta "Otis" (Miami, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Despite an excellent debut album, Naughty by Nature was pegged as a one-hit wonder by some observers -- after all, they'd never duplicate the inescapably catchy "O.P.P.," would they? 19 Naughty III's lead single, "Hip Hop Hooray," proved that they could, and the album confirmed that Naughty by Nature were indeed highly underrated in terms of consistency. It's a shade less consistent than the debut, but has all the same strengths: head-nodding beats, Treach's bouncy flow, and a difficult balance between street attitude and accessibility. Naughty by Nature clearly comes from the streets, and have all the aggression of the streets, but they don't glamorize the streets; sure, they'll take care of themselves in a harsh environment, but ultimately they prefer to steer clear of trouble, cops, and jail. It's a refreshingly grounded and realistic perspective, best heard on "Daddy Was a Street Corner," "The Hood Comes First," and "The Only Ones." There are also energized guest appearances from Heavy D ("Ready for Dem") and Queen Latifah ("Sleeping on Jersey"). Kay Gee again shows himself a sorely underappreciated producer, with one foot in the clubs and the other one on the street corner, and that's true of the group as a whole. A few slower moments don't prevent 19 Naughty III from ranking as Naughty by Nature's second straight triumph.

5.0 out of 5 stars The anthem kings are at it again., August 23, 2007
Naughty By Nature's first album was a classic but this album blows it out of the water. Treach and Vinnie continue dropping heat on their sophomore set. 19 Naughty III was a great way to kick off the album because its shows that Treach wasnt slacking one bit(especially in 1993). The first single Hip Hop Hooray is easily one of the best hip hop anthems ever made. The second single, Its On, was and still is fire as Vinnie throws a harsh jab at that One-Hit-Wonder, Sir-Mix-Alot. Sample/Never call you Sir/ who gives a damn if you Mix-alot/ East Coast gets the props/producers rock you're not/ baby aint got back/ baby got black/ that's why you see the black baby and you respect that/(OUCH!!! Can you say baby got slapped?) Freddie Foxx shuts down Hot Potato down disrespectfully. The Hood Comes First is their anti-sellout records and Treach is still on point lyrically with tracks like Take It To Ya Face, Ready For Dem(feat Heavy D) and Knock Em Out Da Box. the only song I didnt feel was Written On Ya Kitten. The rest of this album was superb. Bottom Line: 19 Naughty III is easily one of the best albums of 1993 and is definitely worthy of being in your collection. Treach is still the most underrated EastCoaster ever. Standout Tracks: 19 NAUGHTY III, ITS ON, DADDY WAS A STREET CORNER, THE HOOD COMES FIRST, READY FOR DEM, HIP HOP HOORAY, TAKE IT TO YA FACE, HOT POTATO and KNOCK EM OUT DA BOX.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first? Yes it is!, May 29, 2007
By DRS 1974 (LOUISVILLE, KY) - See all my reviews
The debut gave us O.P.P and it was a hit, but this CD gave us a better hit with Hip Hop Hooray. The single was one of the reasons i'd have to say that this CD is better than the first. Trench, Vinnie, and Kay Gee stepped up their game with this one. From the first song 19 Naughty III to Ready For Them (feat. Heavy D) to Hot Potato (feat. Freddy Fox) to Sleepwalking II, their isn't a weak song on the CD. This is a must for the collection cause this one goes hard!
