Some very good indie rock! I 'm not sure if it has mass appeal, though - 4.5 stars,
This review is from: 1909 (Audio CD)
Scrabbel's "1909" is very good indie rock, but I don't think most non-indie rock fans would like it. Musically it's pretty diverse - it's indie rock with some synths and garage rock thrown in occasionally. It's also pretty slow and mellow on some of the songs. The lyrics are usually pretty good and sometimes memorable. It's essentially a mellow and slightly dreamy album that would probably be nice to fall asleep to. The singer is also one of the band's stronger aspects - he's got a pretty soothing voice. There are definitely some noteworthy tracks here, the most notable ones are "Sena Song", "Last Train", "Save The Green Planet", "Yo Yo Yo (Please Don't Fall In Love" and "Not Right". There aren't any bad songs which helps things a lot. It seems to miss the "mmph" it needs to go from a "4.5" to a "5", though. All things aside, indie rock fans should like this album a lot! Highly recommended!Highlights include: "Sena Song" "Last Train" "Save The Green Planet" "Yo Yo Yo (Please Don't Fall In Love)" "Not Right" "All The Things We Have" "Waterloo Sunset" "Out Of Time"

Very well crafted indie pop!,

I would characterize this as indie pop rather than indie rock (in contrast to a prior reviewer) -- there's not much rocking to be found on this record, but plenty of startlingly well-crafted, mellow, sonically interesting and diverse tunes. Simultaneously sunny and melancholy. This album FAR exceeded my expectations in its loveliness.

I have been listening to a lot of Rock and Roll Bands....for a festival to be...and when I heard this CD...it was refreshing and different...but soothing to my ears.....I liked it so much I bought a copy so I could listen to it all...not just bits and pieces...will it be a crowd pleaser...probably not...but for those of us looking for a different kind of music....it will...fit the chord.....the music...yo..yo..yo..Don't Fall In Love...How neat is That..?.....Don't be the same...there are those who like being different....who like to listen to different music.....this is great...
