This excellent book is mostly a pictorial coverage rather than a narative. As such it exceeds most books on WW1 that I have seen. The choice of photographs is excellent and I could only spot one that I was sure I had seen before. The size of the book enables the photographs to be shown clearly and in large format. For once a book of the period gives a good coverage of the French army, who seem to get little attention paid to their huge efforts by most authors. It is an impressive and large book for the price. For those who love modelling or wargaming the era they will find a rich reward in the ideas they will find on these pages as photograph after photograph unfolds to show how the fields of combat and the participants really looked. A few of the artillery weapons shown are misidentified, but this is very minor and the mistakes forgivable as they are usually declared as weapons they look very much like. Highly recommended. Mal. Wright.

A very good book. Many photos and very few text. The photos are rare, clear and are in large format. This book breaks up the opposing forces in separate sections and gives a good representation of the Canadians, the French and the Australians.
There are even a few rare pictures of the colonial soldiers from Anam( current day Vietnam).
I am disappointed at the total lack of color illustrations of the uniforms, artillary pieces and tanks.

This illustrated book gave us a great idea of what happen in the Spring Offensive,in some photos you can see the destructuion of the Great War in many towns.

The only illustrated account of the Great joint British-Canadian-French assault in World War I. Other books on the 1917 offensives try to concentrated on a single sector of the frontlike the British at Arras, the Canadians at Vimy, or the French at Chemin des Dames but now we can see that the offensive was a truly an Allied effort, this was the only way to stop the Germans.

The detailed narrative is supported by an extraordinary collection of 300 rare or unpublished photographs from government archives and private collections which could help us study in detail the equipment of the soldiers or the famous world war Tanks and the amazing destruction of the artillery. Marvelous photos, especially of French infantry.
