Handy for the researcher working "offline", July 21, 2010
This review is from: The 1920 Federal Population Census: Catalog of National Archives Microfilm (Paperback)
This particular publication predates the online accessibility of this information online to researchers, but it still remains relevant as a resource. The catalog contains the information on how to use the Soundex Code and film to determine which Census Record you need from 1790 to 1890. The Soundex is only available for 1880 and 1890 however, so other sources need to be utilized to determine where ancestors resided from the 1790 to 1870 Federal Censuses. The catalog does include helpful hints and useful publications to assist researchers.
I don't believe the NARA has done an updated version of this catalog and with the accessibility of information online the need for this catalog is quite honestly rather limited. This catalog is likely useful for researchers who would rather be "offline" for a little while.
