A very interesting and informative read. The author pulls you in beginning with his life prior to the shooting, the shooting itself in great detail and his life afterwards. Surviving being shot 8 times from an AK-47 assault rifle had nothing to do with luck. God had other plans for Officer Stan Cook.

Stan's incident is always in the back of every police officers mind. You just never know when it might happen. Stan tells his story of facing the "Devil" himself as it actually happened putting you on the edge of your seat as it went down. After reading his story, everyone will appreciate what a police officer can face while protecting the citizens that they serve. You will not be able to put this book down once you start reading it. Semper Fi Stan..

Stan Cook grabs the reader's attention right away and fulfills that expectation he has developed. There are interesting differences to the ways that Honolulu (City and County) Police travel about, and as a frequent visitor to the isles I will keep them in mind. I am fascinated with how Stan moved up through the ranks, but shocked that policemen do not carry enough gun power to put down a real threat from a drug-induced frenzied felon. I know about Stan's background as a fellow submariner, but am really interested to find out about his after-military life.

A great read!!!

This book was a very easy read and it kept you wanting to get to the next page. Officer Cook takes you through his life before, during, and after the shooting without taking you down long drawn out pages, it get's right to the point. He takes you down a path of how the not so typical day of a Honolulu Police Officer can change your whole life in a minute. Officer Cook writes how training and dedication can save a law enforcement officers life. We see Hawaii as a place of fun and relaxation however the police officer faces the same dangers as with any metropolitan law enforcement officer.

As a Honolulu Police Officer hopeful, reading this book was simply a pleasure. This book truly gives "The Whole Story" and says the things that were not aired on local media, along with the rest of his journey in HPD. I would definitely recommend any person involved in law enforcement (or even hoping to get involved with law enforcement) to read this book.

If you're still on the fence trying to decide whether or not to get this (very affordable) book, take a look at the Kindle sample available. That'll push you right over the edge.

Having lived the experience from afar and reliving the emotions that I felt the day he was shot; the book rekindled all the love you have for a fellow officer, friend, and human being. Stan is the type of person you are proud to call your friend and is the type of person all of us should emulate. Congratulations Stan on a well written book. May you always have the sun on your face and following seas.
