5.0 out of 5 stars IT's A GREAT, GREAT BAND, October 30, 2008
This review is from: 1925-28 (Audio CD)
Nowadays the mega-rich vie with one another to own football teams, but in the twenties a far more desirable commodity was available to those with money. One of whom was Roger Wolfe Kahn, who bought out Arthur Lange's band in 1923, and with his millionaire father's backing began restocking it with the best New York had to offer. The result is that his first Victor recording in March 1925 fully justified its title of "Hot-Hot-Hottentot". By the end of the year the band included Miff Mole, Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang, with Jack Teagarden and Artie Shaw joining later for good measure.

Victor's recording process, and John R. T. Davies' remastering, has produced a clear crisp sound, which does full justice to the excellent arrangements. As is usual with Jazz Oracle, the illustrated liner note gives a good account of Kahn's history and there is a discography. This is a delightful reissue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent twenties band!!, March 12, 2005
This review is from: 1925-28 (Audio CD)
Roger Kahn was the son of wealthy banker Otto Kahn. He loved dance music and got his father to pay for excellent musicians, great arrangers, endless rehearsals, superior recording facilities. Boy, am I glad he did! This is definitely an album to add to your collection if you love this type of music. Roger Kahn also wrote the highly addictive song, "Crazy Rhythm." This is definitely worth loading into your ipod!!!!
