Holiday changed all that, marshalling a memorable amalgam of infallible technique, indubitable spirit, and what would come to be called "soul". Born in Baltimore in the 1910s, she… Read more in Amazon's Billie Holiday Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Billie Holiday is American music, January 12, 2001
By
This review is from: 1933-37 (Audio CD)
Tony Bennett once said that Billie Holiday is American music. I don't blame him. In my opinion, Billie Holiday was the first great music star and this cd proves it. Her voice contains soul, heartache, and truth. She has had influence on the greatest jazz men and women of our century to people like Kat Bjelland and Lori Barbeno of Babes In Toyland. You cannot dismiss Lady Day's unbelievable amount of talent. If you are a fan of music, this cd is a must have.
