The great Puerto Rican composer Pedro Flores was a genial, masterful craftman.The melodic and rhythmical aspects of Puerto Rican popular music of the first half of the 20th Century were similar to those of Cuban music.Flores, I must add, had a gift for composing the most beautiful melodies you will ever hear. The singers featured in this CD sing in a quasi-operatic style, with much refinement and high style. His ensemble was small and simple but the beauty of his songs shine through in all the songs of this record. I highly recommend it for those who want to hear exceptionally beautiful, historically important music .
