1937 Yankees is included, showing Yankee Spring Training in more detail and including a brief look at the 1937 World Series. Next is the major part of the 1937 World Series, including pre-game closeups of the managers, celebrities and the two ballparks. (The total World Series footage runs a full 13 minutes.) Fascinating parts include several different views of Joe DiMaggio's first World Series home run (4 different shots show the homer from 4 different angles), the Yankees knocking out Carl Hubbell in game 1, the Giants victory in game 4 and the argument involving umpire Bill Stewart, coach Art Fletcher, McCarthy and Lou Gehrig. Great scenes inside the victorious Yankee locker room show young Joe DiMaggio and veteran Lou Gehrig.
The final segment of this video is a 1953 interview with one of the stars of the 1930's Yankee ballclubs and especially the 1937 World Series, Lefty Gomez. In this rare interview with Marty Glickman, Lefty looks back 16 years to the 1937 series and discusses the "airplane watching incident", his big hit in the final game of the series and the great relief work of ace fireman Johnny Murphy. He compares the early 30's Yankee ball clubs with those of the late 30's and selects his choice as the best of those Yankee teams. Lefty comments about Babe Ruth's "called shot" and after naming some of the great American League hitters he faced, picks out the toughest batter to fool that he faced during his career. The interview ends with yet another different look at the 1937 World Series highlights.
