Enlightening and entertaining social history,

This review is from: 1939 the Last Season of Peace (Hardcover)
This is one of my favorite books. Lambert uses first person interviews and historical research to craft a beautifully written portrait of the last gasp of the debutante system in Britain before WWII. The details make you feel like you were there and the biographies of the "girls" who took part are fascinating. A bit on the Kennedy girls too, who were in England with their father Ambassador Joe Kennedy, if you are interested. Photos are great, I just wish there were more of them since the author frequently talks about the scrapbooks she was given to look at during her research.

This review is from: 1939: The Last Season of Peace (Hardcover)
This book details the events of the English debutantes last formal 'coming out' before WW2 was declared. This quaint, but outdated, social event was discontinued by Queen Elizabeth 2. I thoroughly enjoyed this good read.
