5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent small-group swing, March 11, 2005

This review is from: 1944-45 (Audio CD)
This is the second installment of Bigards complete recordings in the Chronological Classics series, and it is much better than the first volume (1944, Classics 896). There are a couple of Black & White sessions, a Keynote date, and a bunch of Lamplighter/Crystalette sessions included. The Keynote date with Joe Thomas on trumpet is especially good; "Rose Room" is a gem. The slow blues "Blues for Art's sake" for B&W and "Wini's blues," featuring Wini Beatty on vocal, are also terrific. A consistently enjoyable CD.
