This review is from: 1951-1953 (Audio CD)
They all got together: George Shearing, Erroll Garner, Milt Buckner - with a little help from young Bud Powell and perhaps a couple of others. They all got together and snatched her brain. What can you say? There is mood, groove...lots of "Jazz values". But I've never seen a major, mature musician be so overwhelmed by the influence of others. It's a bit frightening. She was "ahead of her time" in the '30's and I'm sure all these new sounds responded to a need she had already felt. But they are so bland by comparison - so like "I went to a little club and heard this really good Jazz pianist" - esque. I want my Mary Lou back!
