Raw & Rugged New Orleans Jazz,
By Jazz Man (Madison, Wisconsin) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 1960 (Audio CD)
I have over 2,000 jazz and blues CDs and I think I may have played this one more than any other. It's rough and exciting music recorded at a wonderful time in New Orleans jazz history. Many of the old players (like Ernest "Punch" Miller) were shaking off the cobwebs and starting comebacks. Preservation Hall was soon to open and it was the jam sessions there that helped Punch make his return to music. Worldwide tours were to follow for Punch along with a ton of recordings, but for me this one is the best. It's simple, down-home and has a infectious vibe that always puts a smile on my face.
