What other music was on the turntable at the time? For me, I can remember the worn out Pistols, Rush, Bob Marley, Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull, Jeff Beck, Peter Gabriel, and Pink Floyd. There were may others, but I'll leave those to you.

When 'Avalon' came out in 1982, there were 2 other records that absolutely sum up that year for me, that I can remember: Elvis Costello's 'Imperial Bedroom' and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's 'The Message'. There were other, lesser releases that, while good, couldn't touch those three. Ah, what good years the late 70's-early 80's were; I had just left college in 1980 after 1 semester, didn't have to get a job, and played in bands for several years with no real responsibilities........... Those, as they say, were the days!

New Gold Dream.
Ultravox's Vienna.
Shriekback's early singles.
Love Over Gold.
Kate Bush's incredible The Dreaming.
1999.
And a hundred more.

Great year for music.

But Avalon ranks with any of them.
