Biography

Burning Image arose out of the ashes from a band called "The Pictures"in the summer of 1983. Moe Adame and Tony Bonanno formed "The Pictures" as an excuse to play the cool edgy music of the day and to bring Punk Rock to Bakersfield, CA. They were tired of playing all the crap from the radio. They also wanted to play their own music. They were not alone.

At that same time, Joe Sparks and Paul… Read more in Amazon's Burning Image Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Pessimistic classic, January 27, 2005
This review is from: 1983-1987 (Audio CD)
Remember the 80's? back when we had Ronald Reagan, the USSR, the Cold War and the thought of nuclear holocaust still scared us to death? Out of that era came some of the darkest and most pessimistic underground music ever. Among the early American Goth/Punk/Deathrock movement this band seems to have been somewhat overlooked. Every bit worthy of acclaim from the Gloom & Doom and Death Rock crowd as 45 Grave and Christian Death and from the Punk crowd as TSOL and Black Flag, yet no one seems to remember Burning Image. It's a shame because these fine young lads from Bakersfield (?!?!) California played some serious Graveyard Rock with a political twist. It's funny when you look at current mainstream bands like AFI, Alkaline Trio, Good Charlotte, Evanescense, and just about any other band who's t-shirts and cds you can find at Hot Topic stores in EVERY Mall in the country... you sit back and wonder what happened to the authenticity? What happened to the days when Goth kids were the fringe of society instead of being regarded as troubled mall rats, cute curiosities or teens going through annoying fads? Many of these "neo-goths" have no idea who Joy Division, Bauhaus, or Christian Death are! Sad.
Listening to this excellent cd brings back the old feeling before the dark subcultures became tainted and sanitized. Before "Goth" became a household word. Listen to this cd for some authentic Dark Rock. This is an album full of raw righteous anger, twisted, disturbing and sensuous music and real talent. Don't be surprized when it doesn't sound like Slipknot, AFI, Sum 41 or whatever else gets passed for "Goth" or "Punk" nowadays. This is the real deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE!!!, May 31, 2004
This review is from: 1983-1987 (Audio CD)
If you don't buy this album how will you respect yourself in the morning??? If you can still recall the days (or wish you could) when goth/punk/hardcore wasn't corporate and bands did it all for the love of the music and not to end up in Tiger Beat or selling Volvos then you must own this. If you dig the stuff like the real TSOL, Joy Division, Christian Death, 45 Grave, The Damned etc then you'll dig this. CLASSIC Bakersfield (which has to be said again - was always much more than just Buck and Korn) Moe and Co. - you guys ROCK!

This great album has been overlooked by "deathrockers" for years, and it's perhaps the most brilliant underground release in the scene.
