Azealia Banks is like Nicki Minaj meets Santigold. Her style encompasses fierce rapping, clever wordplay, and creative rhythms. The production and craft recall Santigold, while the lyrical content, delivery, and attitude recall Minaj.

Banks is one of the most hyped (maybe most hyped) new artists of 2012. And the hype came from just a few songs posted on YouTube. But it's easy to see why. She is a skilled, versatile rapper whose music sounds original.

"1991" is an EP that builds on what we've seen from Banks on YouTube and gives a preview of what we'll see on her first studio album.

Personally, I enjoyed all four tracks on the album. All the songs on this album combine hardcore hip-hop with house music. "212" and "Liquorice" are previously released songs. "1991" and "Van Vogue" are new songs. "1991" and "212" are the songs I like the best.

On "1991", we see Banks combining her fierce rapping with a retro-house music beat. "212" has house influence that is more current sounding. "212" best displays Azealia's versatile delivery and ability to shocking yet clever wordplay.

Anybody from hip-hop to indie to electronic music fans should check out Azealia Banks' music. Looking forward to
hearing her upcoming mixtape and first studio album.

4.0 out of 5 stars A new kind of female rap. June 10, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
We see this new artist making her way in the industry, after already conquering Europe, she makes her forray into the music in the US with her debut EP "1991". My friend told me about Mrs. Banks, so I checked out 212. After listening to it, I was hooked. I bought the EP, when it came out and i really enjoyed it. It blends rap and electronic really well. Please give her a chance. I do like both Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks, so I am not gonna choose a side. But there is something undeniably fresh about Azealia that she brings to the table.

We start out with 1991, a house kind of song. You hear a bustling coffee shop, then you transition into her voice. Talking about the older times and about other things. Then you go into Van Vogue, a track about fashion. This song has a jungle kind of theme to it, I really like it. It also showcases some real vocals from her. Then you go into the smashing 212, the pounding beats and bass. This song stands out, i really like this and it is my favorite. It does have some trash talk, but revolves around her life in New York. Then we polish off with Liquorice, a song about guys and sex. I like this one too. A catchy chorus and fun little beat.

Overall, Azealia Banks is marking her territory with her new EP. She does really well with blending electro and rap beats. I enjoyed this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, sexy hip hop May 29, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Azealia Banks shows her talent as a lyricist on a 4 track EP of fun, runaway party beats and carefully crafted rhymes that includes her YouTube sensation hit "212", a remastered version of her single "Liquorice", and 2 new songs: "1991" and "Van Vogue". This is a great way to wet the appetite for her first full length LP "Broke with Expensive Taste" set to release later in 2012.
