5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent music - open your ears and enjoy September 30, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Les Colocs were a Quebecois Francophone band whose music covered many bases and many genres. It evolved from their first, eponymous album on through to their posthumous studio release, Suite 2116, released following the suicide of the band's heart and soul, Dédé Fortin. You don't need to understand Quebecois French to enjoy this music. Your knowledge of joual can be non-existent and this music will still touch your heart and soul.

This compilation includes many of Les Colocs' best songs. It's an excellent introduction to a band that was highly respected and loved in their home province. They sometimes wore their hearts on their sleeves (e.g., Seropositif Boogie, written by harmonica player Patrick Esposito de Napoli, who died soon after of the disease he sang about), sometimes goofed around, but always gave their all to playing their music. Les Colocs' music conveyed truth and honesty - and, as I said, joy. Check out reviews of the band's original releases, especially their first (Les Colocs) and third (Dehors novembre) releases and give these guys a listen. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad purchase June 22, 2012

Really thought I'd like this, but maybe there's a reason the lead singer offed himself. Don't waste your money. Not worth the ear ache.
