From Booklist
For each state a map is included noting cities and towns. However, even with a magnifying glass one can hardly read the names. The layout of entries, however, is pleasing with three columns to a page. Within each state, entries are listed under counties. Within counties, agencies are further broken down by community services, home-health-care, county health departments, medical services, and testing sites. The most useful aspect of this directory is its comprehensive coverage of state, county, and city health departments. The information for these agencies rarely changes from year to year. Unfortunately, many private agencies are omitted. For example, the prominent Howard Brown Health Center in Chicago is listed only in the home-health-care section for Cook County. It does not appear under testing sites, even though it is a major site for HIV testing.
All in all, this is a useful directory that will provide reference departments, health-care centers, and other libraries the referrals that patrons may be looking for. It is not exhaustive in the information provided, but no directory is. Other directories that complement this one include The AIDS Directory [RBB My 15 93] and AIDS Information Sourcebook (3d ed. Oryx, 1991).
