Korai Orom - '1997' (Studio Kft),

This review is from: 1997 (Audio CD)
Korai Orom is basically good, well written and often experimental(what some may call)ethnic psychedelic/space rock.I've never seen a band that not only names most of their CD's by the year each record was produced and released, but also ALWAYS leave their songs untitled.Track one features some cool chanting over the music,as track two is a nine-minute piece of stellar improv. that puts good use to flute, guitar, trumpet and keyboards jamming and cut three pulls you in with off-the-wall synth sounds. Not going to even try to describe the remaining tunes here.Listen for yourself. Can't easily access all of this Hungarian ensemble's work, but take it from me,it's all good.Might appeal to open-minded fans of Ozric Tentacles,Colorstar,Hawkwind and Omnia Opera.

Among some of the best from Hungary,

This is amazing stuff. I got my first taste of this band a few years back from a prog music distributor in NJ who encouraged me to buy their 1st CD. I was hooked on their sound ever since. I like a lot of percussion mixed with progressive music and this band hits a home run each time. Ozric Tentacles fans will probably enjoy this music but it's less synth and guitar oriented than most psych/prog groups. The decided emphasis is on heavy bass and drum rhythms. Sporadic odd vocals add just the right touch of variation from time to time. A must have for the musically adventurous. Very savory and for special tastes - quite deserving of 5 stars.

This is a superb CD. It is like all their music in that it's very atmospheric and intense. I enjoy the fact that there's no vocals, as it allows the listener to focus on the music...and what a pleasure it is to listen and re-listen to this.
