Editorial Reviews

From the back cover

There is nothing in sports on par with the seventh game of the World Series.

It's the guaranteed last game of a 28-team quest that begins in February. For a great number of those teams, that quest begins in Florida. For the first time ever--the quest this year also ended in Florida.

The five-year-old Florida Marlins combined the wily leadership and manager Jim Leyland with a team built through shrewd draft picks, trades, and talented free agents. They won the National League wild card--then became the first wild card team to reach the World Series by sweeping the Giants and shocking the Braves.

The Cleveland Indians were a far different team than the one that battled in the 1995 World Series. This year, nobody expected them to beat the Yankees or the Orioles--but somehow they did.

And so, these two underdog warriors slugged it out in the heat and snow of the World Series until they reached that quintessential moment--Game Seven. Even then, it went on--into the 11th inning--the second longest Game Seven in history--before Edgar Renteria sent all of Florida into a state of delirious celebration.

This official sports documentary has it all: the stunning performance of 22-year-old Cuban Livan Hernandez, MVP of both the League Championship Series and the World Series, incredibly reunited with his mother for the ultimate game; the memorable play of Sandy Alomar, Omar Vizquel, Darren Daulton, Moises Alou, Marquis Grissom and pitcher Chad Ogea; the chess match played by managers Mike Hargrove and Jim Leyland; the joy and heartbreak of fans from Little Havana to the Flats.

This commemorative video includes: exclusive player interviews; exclusive game, postgame, and victory rally footage; plus Division Series and League Championship Series highlights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exhilarating ! ! !, November 30, 2001
By
This review is from: 1997 World Series - Florida Marlins vs Cleveland Indians [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a very exciting video. This video is so exciting that it makes you feel that you're watching the 1997 World Series all over again. This video brought back the excitement that I felt when Renteria drove in that winning run in the 11th inning that made the Marlins world champions. If you want to feel that excitement and exhilaration that you felt in 1997, I suggest you buy this video. It is by far, the greatest baseball video I have ever seen!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars ONLY AVAILABLE ON VHS!!!, January 16, 2005
This review is from: 1997 World Series - Florida Marlins vs Cleveland Indians [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It is a travesty that this world series video is not available on DVD.

Write MLB (they have rights to it) and demand the 1997 WS video on DVD!!

Those who have the 2003 Marlins WS video on DVD will understand.
