5.0 out of 5 stars Fix the sound? Got it worked our here!
This is a great little TV/DVD combo. Only problem was the lack of info for how to get the sound issue worked out. The problem seems to be the "Night Mode" setting. To get to this you need to be playing a DVD, press the stop button, then menu. A hidden menu system comes up(think its page 63 in the manual). Go to the sounds menu and change the Night mode to ON. Then...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Picture, Terrible Sound - Forget It
On impulse, I picked up a 19lv61k at Cosco at a cheap price and an automatic factory rebate. I intended to use it in my travel trailer. Got it home, and found the usual excellent Toshiba picture, but the volume was a disaster. Cranked all the way up (to "50") on the volume control, you could barely make out what people were saying from 3 feet away. The only way you can...

Then exit the menu and press play on the DVD function. You should see a dramatic improvement in the sound volume.
Took a little while to figure this out but it does work. Figured that there had to be a way to do this, there were a lot of questions floating around but no answer. Hope it helps.

The only way you can enjoy a movie is to put your face into the screen. I understand there are several similar Toshiba models (including the 19LV610U and 19LV611U) with a like volume problem. I thought I might simply bridge this problem with a cheap plug in speaker system, but read in the owner's manual you can only attach an analog sound system if you have the 26 inch model! Also, for a minor quibble, this is called a 19 inch tv, but it only measures out at 18 and one-half inches. My wife and I own other Toshiba TV's, and love each of them. Don't avoid Toshiba TV's, but do avoid this model. By the way, I ultimately bought a Sharp LC22DV27UT, which is the bomb, and as I update this on June 22, 2009, is on sale at a really nice price with free shipping at Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cute model, but low sound...ought to be mentioned upfront. Would not buy that model again., February 11, 2010
This review is from: 19LV61K 19 Inch 720p LCD TV/DVD (Electronics)
I have a Toshiba 19LV61K LCD tv/dvd. The volume is not mentioned at purchase, but should be. The speakers are 1.5 watts. Listening to the tv from 2 or 3 feet requires setting the volume to the highest maximum and the sound is still low--all my guests have complained. Same problem when listening to a DVD, whereby the DVD is incorporated to the television.

In addition, when I tried to understand the problem and report it through the Costco Concierge technical support, the Costco representative and I were hung up on by a lady named Kim at Toshiba (Date: February 10, 2010, around 4:30 p.m. (MST)). Besides hanging up on us, the representative was adamant at denying even the existence of my experience.

I have had other Toshiba products and still do, but never had such a bad experience. In addition, the problem of low volume on this model remains a problem!!! Based on my experience with the product, I would not recommend this model or brand to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Toshiba sound quality, July 25, 2009

The only review on this TV does not reflect my experience. The TV has a great picture and the sound quality is certainly not bad - but more than adequate. I too purchase the TV at Costco and find it to be a great value.

The Toshiba 19LV61K is certainly a great looking t.v. as far as the looks are concerned. But is that why we watch the t.v.!? It's what comes out of "The Box" that really makes the difference.
I purchased this television brand new at my local Cosco store here today and hooked it up. What a beautiful picture it is and lots of different screen modes to make almost anyone happy. The colors are terrific and sharp, too! But, THE SOUND SUCKS! And, it's not bad... it's really, REALLY bad. Even with the volume turned up to maximum, it is almost a whisper and very annoying. I did improve the sound just a little by going to the guide and selecting the surround sound mode. This did amplify the sound just a little... a very little.
So, I will put the whole thing in a box and off to Cosco for a prompt return. Save yourself the trouble and look for something else. When Toshiba comes up with a television this size with a speaker that makes sense, then I might take a look again. But, for now... it's back to a search for a good, small television with a dvd player in it.

This review is from: 19LV61K 19 Inch 720p LCD TV/DVD (Electronics)
This tv is very nice and easy to use. The only improvement it could use is to have a louder volume. We use this tv in our 5th wheel travel trailer and the sound is just not quite loud enough. The dvd is a great added feature in a small compact and easy to move unit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tuner Problems, March 6, 2010
This review is from: 19LV61K 19 Inch 720p LCD TV/DVD (Electronics)
As mentioned in other reviews the sound volume is very poor.
The first one would not receive one of the channels.
The second one had intermittent problems with audio on one channel (different than above).
In both of the above an older television was used to verify the problems.
Currently searching for a replacement.

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible sound is all I have to say, February 17, 2010
This review is from: 19LV61K 19 Inch 720p LCD TV/DVD (Electronics)
I usually read reviews of everything I buy, however, having already owned 3 Toshiba LCD TV's, I figured I couldn't go wrong. Picture is good, DVD works good, but sound at full blast is barely audible 5 feet away - Terrible!

Also picked up this model Toshiba from Costco. Sound was terrible. But with a quick call to Costco technician (yes, Costco has technical support) we were walked through a simple "fix." Works great now!
