Through a global reach in practice, teaching and as author, Richard Diedrich has led the resurgence of the clubhouse as the architectural soul and social center of the planned community.
Through his practice, Richard has designed, programmed, and consulted on over 120 facilities in venues as distant as Florida to Hawaii in the US, and internationally in Dubai, Ukraine, China, Egypt, France, Russia, and Great Britain.
At the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Diedrich created and for 16 summers taught the professional development course focusing on the programming, planning, and design of clubhouses and the range of recreational community facilities.
Generated by his practice and teaching, Richard authored "Building Type Basics for Recreation Facilities", the seminal reference book for the design of facilities supporting active leisure and used worldwide by architects, designers, and developers. Published by John Wiley & Son, the book is in its 3rd printing.
His latest book, "The 19th Hole: Architecture of the Golf Clubhouse", showcases a diverse collection of the best designed golf clubhouses in the United States beginning with examples from the 19th and early 20th centuries and presenting the evolution of the clubhouse into its current form. Jack Nicklaus provided the Foreword for the book.
