The book was a disappointment because the 500 or so black and white photographs were of a very small size (usually four in a page, placed like in a checkerboard style) and of poor quality. The 1st Panzer Division deserved a better account and it would be wise to avoid spending money on this volume.

I don't know what previous reviewers were looking for with this book but it certainly satisfies me and I already understood that it was a collection of pictures more than a detailed biography of the division itself. That's not to say that there aren't any useful facts in the book but the true value of this book is that it has pictures that you just can't get any other way and sometimes a pictures is better than a thousand words. If you're into armored warfare, especially the german panzer divisions of ww2, this book is a very nice addition to any serious collector's library and well worth the money I spent to get it.

This book is pretty good for the money. The previous reviewer is correct that this is not a comprehensive history of the division. It is essentially, primarily the photo collection of the author who was a member of the 1st Panzer Division. There are some good pictures, but it is not a "slick" production. It is worth the current asking price. It is better than the comparable German "Dorfler" series of divisional histories. Definitely better for the price than the recent Diary of a Panzer Soldier published by Schiffer.
