5.0 out of 5 stars Cool, cheap, and good
This is the only place in the *world* I could find this type of adapter. Radio Shack apparently used to have one (Multimedia Headset Y-Cable, 42-2428) but discontinued it. I tested this item with a mono cell headset (3 conductors on the 2.5mm plug) and a stereo cell headset (4 conductors on the 2.5mm plug). It worked with both, but with the stereo headset, sound only...

3.0 out of 5 stars Only mono (3 pin)
This is only for mono headsets. If used with a stereo headset, you'll only have sound in your right ear.

It worked with both, but with the stereo headset, sound only comes through the right headphone channel. Sound records identically on both channels through the microphone however. Using this adapter I could use my cell phone headset to both listen to music and place Skype calls on my PC. The sound quality of both was fine. This is a very useful item to save having to buy a separate headset for VoIP calls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple solution for VOIP on the road, April 21, 2008

I use this little adapter with my laptop and my Blackberry headset in order to use VOIP (my company's OCS, Skype, VonageTalk, etc.). It lets me make hotspot calls more discreetly since I don't have to pull on a jumbo headset. I can hear others clearly and no one has complained about my voice quality. It certainly beats toting around multiple headsets.

I purchased this unit to adapt my Plantronics mono headset with mic's 2.5mm single plug to 3.5mm mic and 3.5mm headset jacks for PC sound card input or (in my case) an existing USB Digital Headset adapter.

This unit is intended for a stereo headset (2 headphones instead of the 1 on my Plantronics mono headset).
Using the mono headset with this unit causes feedback as one headset channel is fed back to one mic input.

TO USE THIS UNIT WITH MONO HEADSET:
Set the speaker type for the audio output (that this unit will plug into) to LAPTOP MONO SPEAKER. That solves any problems with interfacing your MONO headset to your sound system with this converter plug.

RECOMMENDATION:
Buying this unit allows you to use higher quality headsets with your sound card/USB sound device. It is worth it.
I bought 2.

Works great. Only problem, if you consider it a problem, you have to press on it very firmly until you here it snap together if you want it to work properly.

4.0 out of 5 stars seems fine, but don't get for use with a Mac, October 15, 2010

don't buy this without doing careful research if you want to use it with a Mac. i tried it with a MacBook (13-inch Mid 2007) and it didn't work with my headset because this Mac, like all that one may think would work with this adapter, requires line-in level input, not the microphone level input that isn't amplified which works with most PCs.

Been looking for one of these for a while. This one was cheap (perfect for my price range) and works exactly as advertised. Yes it is mono, but that is exactly what I needed. I have a headset for my cordless phone and didn't want to buy another headset just for my PC.

Use it with a 2.5mm headset on my computer for video conferencing. Works great and the audio and mic both are very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have If You VOiP And Want To Travel Light, January 9, 2011

I was VERY happy when I saw that an adapter like this existed as when I upgraded my cell phone last year the 2.5mm earsets I had were useless in the new phones 3.5mm jack. I ordered a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter but it would not work on my phone and the company even sent another but it must be something about the phone itself (HTC Incredible) but proper sets work fine. I found this and decided to give it a try as I liked the idea of using the earset over only one ear and able to make use of the quality and comfort I had in the phone earset.

I can not express how great this adapter is for me. I get the comfort of my cell earset with the cleaner quality of the computer when I Skype, is just great. Going to buy another just to be sure I have a spare in case they become hard to find again as I will use this a lot and have like 5 or 6 earsets to wear out lol.

I bought this after I disconnected my land line and wanted to use my existing headphones. I got a google voice number and this adapter works perfectly. Note : It takes a 2.5mm headphone jack.
