My camera looks at my back yard. It is looking about 300 feet deep and 200 feet wide. I can zoom on the furthest point at my shop and the picture is clear. The colors are amazing with this camera also. It has 5 zoom points and an auto focus. Out of my 9 cameras this one is the best I have. The camera is a bit larger than most bullet style cameras just so you know. Therefore I think it will do the job just fine on your back yard. It is well worth the money. I hope this helps you.

Hi Donna... Don't know what your problem is. Maybe out of focus? You can adjust focus by removing the black cap by unscrewing it. It is threaded into place. Inside, you will find two adjustments, field of view, and focus. They work together. Changing the field of view changes the focus. Start by focusing, then adjust field, and then refocus. Hope this helps, directions are terrible. Well, there aren't any, actually.

It's a very basic function; varifocal lens zoom in and out. Angle is all on placement of the camera. This camera gives a better shot for longer distances.

It is a darn good camera, but I do not know what your trying to do with it. Yes it can pick up plates at a bit of a distance. It is not going to get plates very far at night, or if the vehicle is moving. I hope that helps.
