4.0 out of 5 stars Fine Replacement Remote
We bought this remote for our in-laws as their original Sony TV remote finally broke down. This is a fine replacement remote especially for older people that may need larger buttons due to eyesight issues (or anyone with dexterity problems). The only drawback is that it doesn't light up so you can't see it well in a dark room. But the channel and sound buttons are large...

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't program on my TV
Liked the look and feel of the remote for "older" hands and fingers and simplicity. However, it would not program for our Sylvania. Called Sony and the young woman had me clear it and start again with the 1- 4 # program code and then search, etc., which I had already done, but you never know when you miss something. No success and she stated that it won't program on...

4.0 out of 5 stars Fine Replacement Remote, October 15, 2008

We bought this remote for our in-laws as their original Sony TV remote finally broke down. This is a fine replacement remote especially for older people that may need larger buttons due to eyesight issues (or anyone with dexterity problems). The only drawback is that it doesn't light up so you can't see it well in a dark room. But the channel and sound buttons are large enough and located together at the bottom of the remote so finding them is pretty easy even in the darkest of rooms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Remote, July 13, 2009
This review is from: 2-DEVICE Universal Remote with Big Buttons (Electronics)
Bought this for a stroke victim with limited mobility in his hand and it works great for him. The buttons are larger and that is a great help. Only works on 2 devices which is perfect for the TV & Direct Tv - sometimes simple is better. In the past we have purchased Sony remotes that do not work with the Dish system, we did not try this one on Dish, just Directv. One other note - the product description is incorrect - the remote is NOT 11" long - they must have measured the packaging. So if you are looking for one of those very large remotes, this is not it. This one is about 5 - 6" long, but good button size for those that need that feature.

This is a good basic, simple remote for a tv that does not have a cable box. It is good for the elderly and non-technical person. Recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Number pad too complicated for users with dementia, July 17, 2010

This review is from: 2-DEVICE Universal Remote with Big Buttons (Electronics)
I thought I had found the perfect solution when I ordered this remote for my mother who has dementia and was getting confused with the remote that came with her TV. This remote has a minimum number of buttons and the numbers are large. However, in order to change the channel from the number pad, you must key in the channel number and then push the "." key and then the "enter" key.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes simple is better, November 5, 2009

If you have even the most bare-bones entertainment setup, you probable have quite a collection of remotes. They all have their uses but, for the times when you just want to turn on the TV and nothing else, it's nice to have a model like the Sony. Simple, small, easy to use and comfortable even for arthritic hands. Nice big buttons so you can see what to press even in low light.

Setup is a snap - just look up the brand of your TV and/or cable box on the supplied list, type in a four digit code, and you're done.

This is not a learning remote - it can only provide the functions that are pre-programmed into the unit (channel up/down, volume, channel entry via a number, channel recall and mute).

It uses two AA batteries that do not come with the unit. Build quality is very good - better than I expected given the price.

You can also get this in black if you purchase it at the store with the red bulls-eye logo. Amazon has a better price, but only offers it in silver.

Advertised to work with any brand of TV but would NOT work with my Samsung TXM1491F regardless of which method : 1. using the brand codes or 2. using the search method. Buyer beware.

I purchased this remote control for my mother who has some difficulty seeing and also has Alzheimers. She finds the remote control easier to use because the buttons are big enough to see versus the remote that came with the television. It was also fairly easy to program initially. I would recommend it for anyone with compromised eyesight or anyone who has a difficult time pushing the small buttons on regular remote controls.
