Intriguing Soundtrack to a Pithy, But Hilarious, Film, August 30, 2007
This review is from: 2 Days in Paris (Audio CD)
French actress Julie Delpy's music has appeared before in the soundtracks of other films, but it hasn't been featured as extensively in any film she's acted in until now. Why? She's the producer, director and writer of "2 Days in Paris", a morose, screwball comedy about a young French-American photographer (Delpy) introducing her American boyfriend (Adam Goldberg) to her Parisian parents (played admirably by Delpy's real-life actor parents). She's also a fine singer-songwriter too, sounding a lot like a cross between early 1980s Debbie Harry from "Blondie" with a hip hop sound highly reminiscient of Luscious Jackson. However, I suspect that Delpy's songs will not be as endearing as any recent ones from, for example, Norah Jones, dealing with the consequence of breaking up and hooking up in the post 9/11 world. And yet her songs will be appreciated by those interested in hearing some fine songwriting craft from someone like Delpy who has a unique mix of talents in music, acting, and now, film making.
