A good portable compressor for light-duty use,
By
This review is from: 2 Gallon Quiet Air per 2
This is my fifth compressor of various sizes. I needed one that I could haul onsite (I do furniture repair work onsite at consumer's homes and retailers' showrooms and warehouses). I got tired of lugging my bigger one around. I use this for airbrushing leather finishes, brad and micro-pin nailers and upholstery stapling. It also sees occasional use as a dust blower. I probably call the compressor to duty a couple of times a week.Congratulations to CH for making it clear what this machine can and cannot do. In other words, "It's the SCFM, stupid." Right on the box and on the compressor, they recommend this unit for: * air inflation * air brushes * brad nailers and staplers * caulk guns * grease guns * engine cleaners And _not_ for high volume applications: * impact wrenches * sanders * ratchets * die grinders * screwdrivers * drills * chisels * cut off tools * spray guns * framing, roofing, and finish nailers In other words, they've aimed this for the home, hobbyist, occasional and low-volume user. Figure out what you're going to do with a compressor and buy this if it fits. If you're a hard-core gear head or framing a house, you want to move up. With the possible exception of spray painting, for which there are HVLP alternatives, it's likely to handle all the DIY tasks. I would not be afraid to use this for a finish nailer if I'm just doing a door or window casing. It's easy to tote with a built in handle and accessory storage case. Also it comes with a coiled air line, an accessory worth $10 to $15. You will want to buy quick disconnects if you are going to use multiple tools with it. It takes about 3 minutes to fill up the tank from empty to cutout @ 100 PSI. It's really quiet compared to my other units. I'd say it is about as loud as a small drill under no load. A cooling fan is thermostatically controlled and will run after the compressor stops so that it cools it down. Technical specs: 2.2 amps (friendly to outlets without blowing a circuit breaker and to extension cords) 0.7 SCFM @ 90 PSI I can shoot about 40 pneumatic staples or 25 2" brads before it cycles on again. The only thing I have not seen is the recommended duty cycle. For example, one of my bigger units says if the compressor runs more than 30 minutes of every hour, you're beyond its recommended duty cycle.
