She rocks in live in concert too!, April 25, 2003

I just recently got to see Michelle Penn live at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach opening for Jason Myraz. Michelle was AWESOME! And this album rocks true to heart and soul. The lyrics of the songs draw you in to her rich vocal style and daunting guitar licks. And judging by the tunes for ... her new release "Last Laugh" continues to ring true with her melodic gift that has ripened to perfection.

Moving Toward Mainstream, November 27, 2002

As a long time M.P. listener I was disappointed with this effort. Not as much soul as "Running From The Seasons", not as much power as "How Do You Live". This CD seems to move toward a more generic, processed sound. Too bad, I really enjoyed the edgier cuts on her earlier outings (especially "Seasons").

Strong-minded, Warm-hearted, Multi-talented... Michelle Penn, August 26, 2003
This review is from: 2 Good 4 U (Audio CD)
LAST LAUGH is a mirrored reflection of its strong-minded, warm-hearted, multi-talented writer/producer Michelle Penn. Incorporating the musical skill of a couple of well-known and extremely talented musicians; Will Turpin (Collective Soul) and Andrew Carillo (Joan Osborn) on the project, Michelle Penn has combined her impassioned guitar artistry with a set of vocal chords that could melt your soul with fervent heat... into a down-to-earth, the-girl-can-rock, six track auditory display of excellence!
Highlights include:
"Think Twice" (track #1) for the soulful, heartfelt melodies. The vocals will catch your interest with the subtle Aimee Mann characteristics.
"Out of the Blue" (track #2) for the killer syncopated guitar hook. More excellent vocals displaying more of a Chrissie Hynde tone.
"Good" (track #3) for the parallel major/minor modal interchange through the verses. Very cool.
"Avalon" (track #6) for the tougher, grittier sounding Sarah McLachlan style vocals over a Counting Crows musical atmosphere. Wonderfully unique.
In a time when it is extremely rare to pop in a CD and find that you truly enjoy every track - Michelle Penn has given us this opportunity... flawlessly... with LAST LAUGH. -JDT, LadySixString Reviews, 08.03.03
