RIPOFF,

This review is from: Two Minute Warning (Audio CD)
Hi this is album is great but it HAS NOT been remastered i have rung the company who stated it hasn't and it sounds like it. The reason I'm giving it three stars is for the following reasons.1)Not remastered 2)CD notes are non existent less than the original release. 3)Quick cash in because Angels albums bring big money on ebay as they have been out of print for some years. The Angels were a big and important band in Australias music history and this Australian company should feel embarrassed at the shoddy treatment they have given The Angels back catalogue, next time let Aztec Music do the reissues as they know how to do them properly. What a wasted opportunity

The Angels chase the American market,
By Mark Munchenberg "Rock'n'Roll Is My Business,... (Adelaide, Australia) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Two Minute Warning (Audio CD)
The Angels clearly show that the US market and its big arenas were in their cross hairs with this release. The production is slick and most of the arrangements are excellent studies in tension and release, creating a record that stands up strongly to repeated listening. This is a very dynamic album with a sound that has clearly evolved from the earlier 'pub rock' records. The album opens strongly with slow-burner Small Price, and then kicks you in the teeth with the barn-storming Look The Other Way. Next up is the incredible Underground. Other highlights on the record are the first single Between The Eyes, Walking To Babylon, and Razor's Edge. The Angels sound is hard to compare to other bands. They are a classic twin guitar hard rock act, but do not exhibit the blues influences you normally hear. Similarly they avoid both the punk thrashing and the shed style of metal playing that was so popular in the early-mid eighties. Their appeal lies in solid riffs that are more melodic than bluesey. The lead guitar work of Rick Brewster stands out as the most perfect example of melody, taste, and restraint you will find in hard rock anywhere. This is not to say that he doesn't kick out the jams when the song calls for it, but when he does, it always serves the song and elevates it to a higher level. Doc Neeson is one of the most charismatic and enigmatic front men in the business. His lyrics are often "stream of conciousness" in style which juxtaposes nicely against the more accessible sounds of the music. This pairing of wierd lyrics with hard rocking music gives The Angels an edge that is both enticing but at the same time somewhat foreboding. The good news is that this album has finally been re-released (July 2006) in Australia on the Liberation Blue label. Other Angels albums that have also had the re-master/re-release treatment are Dark Room, Night Attack, Watch The Red, Howling, Beyond Salvation, Liveline, and Red Back Fever. A new greatest hits package, Wasted Sleepless Nights is also available. Its strange that their first three records have not been re-released. There is also a rumour from Liberation that they are working on a live DVD.

I bought this album back in the 80's at a Harmony Hut in the Columbia Mall in MD. I enjoyed the album but forgot all about it when I left for college. Now, 20 some years later, I just bought the CD and I am so glad I did. I am amazed that these guys never made a dent in America. If you are a fan of hard rock, new wave, funk and metal then you need to get this album. Also check out dark room (more new wave than metal) but really solid. You can find the song "Face the Day" that Great White covered.

Best CD they ever did,
This review is from: Two Minute Warning (Audio CD)
Everything imaginable was going against the Angels when they bought this classic out, new wave pop eg Duran Duran, Wham and Culture Club to name a few. What a breath of fresh air this record was back in '84 and it rocked, no filler here, just pub soaked Aussie rock delivered as it should be, no holes barred straight in ya face hard rock..... love it. If you have never heard this record but love Beyond Salvation then you really need this in your collection, it will not disappoint. All I can say is buy buy buy. When you do give me your feed back.

Two Minute Warning,

The Australian band known as "The Angels" and "Angel City" is an under rated band in my opinon. I was in High School when Two Minute Warning was released. The now defunct local Boston radio station WBCN used to play this band's songs. I remember the song Underground used to be played often during its' release. WBCN was the radio station that introduced The Police and U2 to the USA. WBCN was a very inovative radio station that went off the airwaves in 2010. I find this album to be a good all around rock album. Too bad the marketing for this band was not too strong in the USA. The Angels/Angel City had their own distict sound and personality. I still have this album on cassette. Listen and enjoy. Norm D.

I don't know what it is about Aussie bands but for early heavy rock/neo metal these guys really give it up. Check out Underground - what a traditional heavy thrashing piece. I practically wore this one out when I had it on vinyl. The CD quality is pretty decent and faithful to the original release.

angel city 2 minute warning,
This review is from: Two Minute Warning (Audio CD)
this album kicks from start to finish, the opening song underground makes you wonder why this band never made the big time, they were a little over kill for the average market, but they had the tools to stand next to the acdcs of there time, in fact both this album and face to face are as good as most of acdcs albums, and they had a much larger following over seas than here in the states.... this is a great album to have, and turn it up......

"Underground" is awesome!,

The song "Underground" by itself makesthis album worth buying. I first heard this song on the radio in the mid-1980s in Boston and I had to get the tape of this album right away. "Underground" is in my opinion one of the best hard-driving rock songs of the 1980s. The rest of this album didn't make much impression on me but it seemed competent; possibly I need to listen to the rest of it without being overwhelmed by the energy of "Underground" which I love so much. I wish I could get this on CD in the U.S. but so far I have not been able to find it.

Angels from Angel City,

I was very impressed that you could get it since the group broke up and lost their record label so it is unavailable now.It took alot longer to get than I had planned on and I didn't think it was going to come at all, but when I saw that it came from Austrailia, I was impressed with your service and will continue to do business with you for years to come. It is a great CD and I am very happy with my product and my purchase with you. Keep it up! I am sad to see some of the other people who bought it from you and are whining in their reviews that they are mad and dissapointed because it had not been remastered, Wa, Wa, Wa. They don't deserve to have it. They should be grateful to have even found it..... Mark C. Tedrow

NOT the same as it was in the 80's!,

This review is from: Two Minute Warning (Audio CD)
I recently purchased this CD and was quite disappointed to discover that this CD,when re-issued,was changed from it's original format.Be careful when you order this because the song list has been re-arranged (only mildly annoying)but also, they seem to have omitted the song "Be With You" which was the only ballad on the original album and a GREAT song. They also added the tune "Run For The Shelter" to the lineup which is not a bad song, but certainly dosen't make up for leaving out one of the most memorable songs on the original album.I suppose I wouldn't have been so annoyed about all of this had I known up front that this was NOT going to be the same as when it was issued originally. Finally, you will need to know that the sound quality is not up to par with current releases. It sounds about half as clear and about 2/3rd's the volume capacity as a currently issued CD.
