How does this work?
Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

1.0 out of 5 stars Adware infested app October 7, 2013
Verified Purchase
I can't understand Amazon's apathy that allows this level of annoyware to be given away under its free app of the day promotion. This app is positively dripping with ads, even push notifications that appear in your notification bar and doesn't even require that the offending app be open, letting them bombard you at will. The permissions aren't listed with this app, but just because they don't list the open door, doesn't mean it's not there.
The adware that is put on your device with the installation of this app is:

That's quite the rogue's gallery of c--p you really don't want on your device. So if you insist on getting it? Well, good luck with that...I do believe I'll pass.

^This is edited after it was supposedly cleaned out of spyware. I'm leaving my rating where it is. They shouldn't be putting malware or spyware in any app, paid or not. And some of these will cull your contacts and personal information. For a developer to use not 1, not 2 not even 3, but 6 spamware apps in one game smacks of greed and a complete lack of respect for other people's information. This is not someone I would support in any way. I only have their word for it that there's nothing hiding in this app. I'm not willing to chance it. I don't trust them that far.

1.0 out of 5 stars Adware? October 7, 2013

Lookout states this app has adware that may pop ads in the task bar. This isn't the normal ads one sees on many Android apps. But even then.. On a paid version app? Uninstalled.

1.0 out of 5 stars LOOKOUT VIRUS Adware lookout scans and warns. October 7, 2013

Lookout denied installation of this app spite and malice. I have never had lookout deny any app installation before, so must be a good positive hit. It claimed the app was able to send personally identifiable information to its servers.

I'll stay away....

this popped up from my trust /go security as a low risk because of revmob - can pull your device id and email address... didn't consider it worth the risk as I never remember to turn off the wifi.

The developer quickly removed all of the adware components and issued a 100% CLEAN version within a couple of days.

The game is indeed fun, and the AI seems to be ADAPTIVE. I could be wrong, but the first couple of games were embarrassingly easy, the third game was a squeaker, the next two were difficult, and then the following games were challenging.

So, yes, it is enjoyable.

That said, there were two big issues that resulted in a lost star:
- No UNDO. This is really a big deal, since it is far too easy to accidentally drop a card into a discard pile. It is also too easy to drop a discarded card into the wrong pile. And on at least one occasion I wanted to discard instead of playing a playable card, and it ended up on the play stack. After a while, I just restarted the game rather than deal with the error.
- Card randomization is not random enough. In one game, I went through about 50 cards without getting a single King or a 4; I did, though, have every 9 and 7 in the game. The AI was also having trouble. This problem isn't limited to that game, but it is evident in the playing of many games. Thankfully, this fix should be a simple tweaking of the random function.

Sound/Music: There also are no sound effects and no music. A gentle sound effect system, and either some music or the addition of a music player to allow the player to choose some background music would go well with the game. This isn't crucial enough to warrant dropping any stars, but it would enhance the playing experience.
2-Player: This is a lot of work, but it would be very cool to be able to play against another player via bluetooth (not necessarily wi-fi) instead of the AI.

While not a 5-star game, it is a solid 4-star game, especially if the developer gets the UNDO feature installed (just one step is needed, really).

Now that the adware is gone, it's definitely worthwhile!

It is an OK game to kill time but with it constantly crashing and losing track of your stats and no PvP option it is pretty lame.

Adware on Free App of the Day ...
Hi, we are the developer of Spite and Malice. We have two versions of the app, a free version and a paid version. The two versions share the same libraries including ad libraries. Though the ads are disabled in the paid version, we should have removed them completely instead. We apologize for... Read More
