Biography

Richard D. James, more commonly known as Aphex Twin or AFX, has been a leading figure in experimental electronica for nearly two decades, dabbling in everything from ambient and techno, to jungle and drill'n'bass. 4.0 out of 5 stars Let's hear some acid, November 13, 2001

This review is from: 2 Remixes by AFX (Audio CD)
Squarepusher + RDJ put together a new label (no official name yet, but this release's catalog # is MEN1/MEN1CD) and this is the first release. Track #1 is a remix of 'Flow Coma' by 808 State. Track #2 is a remix of 'Box Energy' by DJ Pierre. Track #3? Annoying fax noises with a little distortion thrown in. Excellent remixes, holding the whole 'old-skool acid' vibe steadily in his hand while punching you in the face at the same time.

Richard D James is a rather eccentric electronic player/writer/performer. I have most of the Aphex Twin, AFX, Polygon Windows that is really RDJ in disguise (though he doesn't try to hide who it really it is actually playing very hard). I've got to admit I was skeptical when I first read a raving review for this particular CD. I rarely agree with critics, but this time I actually agree with the many of them calling this the best thing he has ever done! You could actually dance to, I suppose, the second track. I find myself crankin' up the volume in my car when it hits that track. It jams in a 21st century way! Once again, if you are hip to this style of sound, check this out. Awesome spin!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music from the gods, January 6, 2003

Total mess. Awesome. Not as awesome as Gantz Graf by Autechre, but it is right up there. Definately a must buy for any electronia fan. I don't even know why I should write a review because anything from Aphex Twin, Caustic Window, Polygon Window, GAK, Q-Chastic, AFX, Power-pill, or Mike & Rich is awesome (All aliases of RDJ). This album sounds like something that should've came off of his Caustic Window name, but whatever, it doesn't matter. This album is complete genius and should be on the top of the list for any Richard D. James fan.

Bonus High Frequency sounds. Awesome.
