4.0 out of 5 stars Let's hear some acid
Squarepusher + RDJ put together a new label (no official name yet, but this release's catalog # is MEN1/MEN1CD) and this is the first release. Track #1 is a remix of 'Flow Coma' by 808 State. Track #2 is a remix of 'Box Energy' by DJ Pierre. Track #3? Annoying fax noises with a little distortion thrown in. Excellent remixes, holding the whole 'old-skool acid' vibe...

3.0 out of 5 stars AFX - 2 Remixes By AFX
AFX shows off more of his remixing skills on 2 REMIXES BY AFX, a short EP. The mix of 808 State's "Flow Coma" is pure electro heaven, and DJ Pierre is given a speedy acid workout. And although I haven't deciphered the last track, as a matter of sonics, it's pretty fascinating, though I really wouldn't play it at a party.

Richard D James is a rather eccentric electronic player/writer/performer. I have most of the Aphex Twin, AFX, Polygon Windows that is really RDJ in disguise (though he doesn't try to hide who it really it is actually playing very hard). I've got to admit I was skeptical when I first read a raving review for this particular CD. I rarely agree with critics, but this time I actually agree with the many of them calling this the best thing he has ever done! You could actually dance to, I suppose, the second track. I find myself crankin' up the volume in my car when it hits that track. It jams in a 21st century way! Once again, if you are hip to this style of sound, check this out. Awesome spin!

Total mess. Awesome. Not as awesome as Gantz Graf by Autechre, but it is right up there. Definately a must buy for any electronia fan. I don't even know why I should write a review because anything from Aphex Twin, Caustic Window, Polygon Window, GAK, Q-Chastic, AFX, Power-pill, or Mike & Rich is awesome (All aliases of RDJ). This album sounds like something that should've came off of his Caustic Window name, but whatever, it doesn't matter. This album is complete genius and should be on the top of the list for any Richard D. James fan.

Bonus High Frequency sounds. Awesome.

4.0 out of 5 stars AFX Sarcastically Returns, August 7, 2001
This review is from: 2 Remixes by AFX (Audio CD)
The work of Richard D. James has always been the barometer of the modern music scene. The quality and integrity of AFX has also relied on sarcasm and irony. Here again, with this wonderful E.P., AFX returns and laughs and/or re-invents the new forms of modern "electronic-rave-techno-white noise" products that we can find out there ( noto, pan sonic, Ikeda... ) Especially track no.3, where M. James do gives us a nice feeling of " been there-done that". Now, let's all hope in a nice CD art cover and thousands of minutes of pure passion into the new L.P. to come very soon... Le roi est mort. Vive le roi !!!

More high quality year 3000 space jazz from Richard D. James. It sounds a little more trancy than his last few releases but the production still displays his typical genius. A must have for any collector.
