big, warm guitar rock,
By Charlie Quaker "The Quaker Goes Deaf" (Normal, IL.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 2 (Audio CD)
The 2nd release led by Alan Sparhawk (singer/guitarist for Low) delivers some stunningly gripping
guitar rock with big, soaring, heartfelt melodies that resonate with a genuine sense of depth and purpose. You can feel the MBV power chords echoing off mountaintops and ricocheting through the hazy psychedelic desert atmosphere of classic rock, melding magnanimous riffs and power pop/Stoner melodies with captivating vocal harmonies. Recalls bits of Neil Young/Crazy Horse, Low (of course), Kings Of Leon, Buffalo Killers, Built To Spill.....from Minnesota.

Much improved production here over their debut album. This is a mostly rocking affair, with Alan Sparhawk unleashing some great guitar pyrotechnics and tones, and the tight band cracking away behind him. "Hide It Away" should've been a huge radio hit.
