If you are not familiar with Jimmie's Chicken Shack, this is the album to get. If you are familiar, but don't have it, get it now!! This is by far the best Jimmie's Chicken Shack recording. After being a fan for a long time and following the current lineup changes and the new poppier sound, I look back on these days and smile. As much as I enjot newer albums, such as BYOS, they just don't compare.
There are a few reasons why this is the JCS album. First, it has a long list of classics. With 20+ tracks, everybody is bound to like at least half of them, which is about equal to another album. Next, the musicianship on these albums isn't refined and perfected. The raw JCS sound is present and kicking, making the songs seem much more heart-filled and passionate. Last, to go along with the raw sound, the recording isn't that great. Of course that sounds bad, but it works so beautifully for this album. It creates an entirely new level to the music, making you listen much harder because of the curiousity it stirs up.
This is one of the only albums in music history that is both their best album, but also their most accessible. For the price, this album can't be beat.
