Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 2-Year Audio-Video Service Plan for components (Electronics)
I have been waiting 16 days and 4 phone calls for a mailing label to mail my item in (a MP3 Player). I even offered to send it to the service center myself but was told that I could not do that . Today I called and the woman stated that no mailing label was ever ordered. What is going on?

NEW Repeatedly Doesn't Honor Their Plan,
This review is from: 2-Year Audio-Video Service Plan for components (Electronics)
I've twice had a Samsung 50" DLP HDTV into the designated local service center covered by a NEW extended service plan. Both times, NEW dragged their heels and balked at approving the parts and service that the local service center needed to repair the set. It took threats of small claims lawsuits against the seller(not Amazon) and NEW to get them to approve the repairs. The second time, the set was in the shop over a month before the repairs were finally approved. I would never again buy a service plan backed by NEW. I would give them 0 stars if it was possible.

No Contract, No Local Service, Bad Reviews,

This review is from: 2-Year Audio-Video Service Plan for components (Electronics)
I purchased a DVD Player with a "Two-Year SERVICE Plan for Audio-Video Components Priced Between $200 and $499.99" for $24.99. I received an e-mail confirmation within three days. NO service contract. I called to obtain a copy. They would not send a copy without my registering the product. I asked for the locations of the Authorized Service Centers in the Washington, DC area. I was given several names. ALL responded that they did NOT service the unit. NEW Corp then said that I would have to mail the unit to New York for servicing. I checked the Amazon web site, found All bad reviews. Since I consider a Service plan essential, I am considering canceling both the DVD Player and the Service Plan and obtaining the Player from a vendor who provides a reliable Service Plan.

this item i supposed to be a 2 year year contract, however, the contract begins on the day the item is bought, making it a 1 year extended contract after the mfg. contract expires. mintek, on the other hand, sells a 2 yr contract that starts after the 1 yr mfg contract expires. i emailed NEW and within 3 days, MS. JILL WEAVER notified me that a refund check was being cut. kudos to MS. WEAVER for good customer service.

Important things you should consider before purchasing!,
This review is from: 2-Year Audio-Video Service Plan for components (Electronics)
Service plans are usually an impulse buy with high profit margins due to the very few claims they get. For most people, these plans are an often unnecessary expenditure.
First off, before you buy a service plan, make sure you look at the terms of your credit card. Many cards offer 1 or more years of additional warranty coverage just for using their card. Often, these go into affect after the manufacturer's warranty ends. Taking a product with a standard 1 year warranty, you would have 2 years of total coverage if you purchased it using a credit card giving you an additional 1 year warranty, making a 2 year service plan completely unnecessary. Even without cc coverage, be sure to read the terms of this service plan first and decide if you'd ever use it. Note that the service plan starts at the date of purchase, so it will overlap your manufacturer's warranty. Unless the manufacturer is shady or might go under soon, you don't need additional coverage during that time. One other thing you should think about is that if you return this item, it will be very difficult if not impossible to get a refund on the service plan. You do have 30 days to purchase the service plan, so consider waiting until you're sure you want to keep the product before buying the plan. If you do purchase this plan, make sure you store the information somewhere safe so that if you ever do have a problem, you will be able to find what you need to get it taken care of. |
