Advance Exchange:

Failed Kindles: Canopy will ship a replacement Kindle to you. You will also receive a pre-paid shipping label to send back the broken Kindle. A valid credit card is required on file to process an advance exchange. If you don't return the failed Kindle within 30 days, you will be charged the price of the replacement device, not to exceed the original purchase price. Simply return the failed Kindle within 30 days to avoid any charges.*

I have had 5 kindles over the years and the newest is the HDX. I have had to have Kindles replaced for various reasons and I have to say this protection plan is worth its weight in gold. You call Amazon, let them know your Kindle is not working right or broken, the rep had my new one to me the next day!! She even called to make sure I had no problems setting up it!! What kind of company provides that type of service anymore?? AMAZON.. Oh by the way.. she spoke true English!!

Fine a way to read the terms and conditions in the Canopy insurance coverage for your Kindle. You may not be covered in your state, or if you have to file a claim it may take extra arbitration to reach and agreement on repair or replacement.

I'm normally not a fan of extended warranties. In general, they just up the cost of whatever I'm buying and offer little in return. Plus, things that I consider unacceptable, often don't meet the threshold of a stringent warranty claim. My old Thrive started acting up just after the 2 year mark, and probably would not have qualified for an exchange under this warranty's terms. Yet to me, it was a sign of things to come and dwindling functionality. So I opted for an upgrade with the Fire HDX.

I sprung for this warranty because I was impressed with the exchange program. Motorola has a similar policy, and I'm a big fan of it. Basically, if you need a replacement, they take your credit card and place a hold on it for the value of the replacement. The new gizmo is sent free of charge, and prior to you needing to send back the defective item; so you never have to be without. Just return the defective gizmo before the deadline to avoid being charged for the replacement. Perfect scenario in my book, though naturally, I hope to never have the need to use it.

I wish this warranty was for 3 years, instead of just 2, but I'm still happy with it. Covering accidental damage is a nice touch, and definitely could be useful if a klutz moment causes a cracked screen, or something.

According to the TOS, my warranty begins when my HDX ships, plus 2 weeks to allow for actual shipping time. Just download a copy via the product description, and save or print. I even sent it to my Kindle library so I'd never lose it. Here's the important stuff about the warranty:

Three weeks after buying my Fire HDX 8.9 I received a 3-page copy of this insurance contract written in very clear terms. For the price it's a pretty good deal. They will provide you with 3 tablets during the course of your coverage for legitimate reasons. I can't vouch for this company but I can vouch for Amazon who recommends this insurance by advertising in a very prominent place on the Fire HDX ad page. I also have to add I purchased 2 Fire HDX 8.9, one after the other, and have this insurance on both.

I am glad some people were satisfied. I cannot say the same. Actually, I never had occasion to use the coverage. I received my HDX as a gift. Within 2 weeks of receiving it, I bought the insurance. However, when the documents arrived my coverage period was ONE DAY, not 2 years. Called and was informed that the dates on the paper were wrong (no kidding) and that I was actually ineligible for the coverage because I applied outside the one month limit. Turns out that the purchaser bought the unit ahead of the date they gifted it to me, and the total time exceeded the one month limit for the insurance. But rather than just canceling and not taking my money, Canopy took the money and gave me one day's worth of insurance. I cannot understand this one month limit from purchase date. If you are given the unit as a gift, you are punished. Besides, Amazon warrants the unit for the first year, so Canopy is not out anything if they accept the purchase any time during the Amazon warranty period. This tells me that the company (which seems to go under 2 or 3 names) is questionable at best. Arbitrary rule lost them a sale. And for those who read this review, I can only hope they lose the sale to you as well.

Not only was the original protection plan not delivered when scheduled (December 4th), but followup emails said that an electronic copy would be sent the same day but wasn't. Square Trade ([...] warranty service which I have had on multiple items provides much better service. It is too bad that Amazon does not use their service for the Kindle Fire HDX like they did in the past for other Kindles.

Also coverage dates should be 2 years from the date of receipt not from the date of purchase.???
