Important things you should consider before purchasing!, May 9, 2005
This review is from: 2-Year Service Plan for Digital and Film Cameras (Electronics)
Service plans are usually an impulse buy with high profit margins due to the very few claims they get. For most people, these plans are an often unnecessary expenditure.
First off, before you buy a service plan, make sure you look at the terms of your credit card. Many cards offer 1 or more years of additional warranty coverage just for using their card. Often, these go into affect after the manufacturer's warranty ends.
Taking a product with a standard 1 year warranty, you would have 2 years of total coverage if you purchased it using a credit card giving you an additional 1 year warranty, making a 2 year service plan completely unnecessary.
Even without cc coverage, be sure to read the terms of this service plan first and decide if you'd ever use it. Note that the service plan starts at the date of purchase, so it will overlap your manufacturer's warranty. Unless the manufacturer is shady or might go under soon, you don't need additional coverage during that time.
One other thing you should think about is that if you return this item, it will be very difficult if not impossible to get a refund on the service plan. You do have 30 days to purchase the service plan, so consider waiting until you're sure you want to keep the product before buying the plan.
If you do purchase this plan, make sure you store the information somewhere safe so that if you ever do have a problem, you will be able to find what you need to get it taken care of.

Better than any other program, March 10, 2005
This review is from: 2-Year Service Plan for Digital and Film Cameras (Electronics)
I purchase plans on just about everything I buy and must say this plan is a great deal...not only less expensive than other competitor plans, but in my past experiences with NEW, they always do their best to take care of the customer (unlike most manufacturers). Other programs are not always insured, so if they go out of business, you're not covered. The best thing I like about NEW is that every plan is backed by an insurance company. If something happens to NEW or Amazon, I don't have to worry about my contract not being valid.

DONT BUY THIS WARRANTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, August 23, 2006
This review is from: 2-Year Service Plan for Digital and Film Cameras (Electronics)
I purchased this extended warranty a year ago and thought it would cover what it claimed to cover. This july I was on a trip to India where the temperature's were extreme up around 120 degrees. After a day out in the sun, I noticed my camera's LCD screen had broken w/o any drops or impacts. When I tried to have it fixed through my NEW extended warranty they said it must have been accidently dropped or abused. When I told them where I had been and how hot it had been they basically told me I was out of luck and they had to assume it had been abused. They argued that the sun could not even do that to the camera and even told me how the camera is not under direct sunlight if it is in your hand. (Still can't figure that one out) Anyway be cautious when buying this extended warranty. Customer service was hostile and very hard to deal with. So if you feel like wasting your money on this company who won't back up their word...go ahead.
