While this item probably works perfectly, be sure to determine what sort of pinset you need before you order.
I ordered two of these for my sons laptops, and it turns out that they have a smaller pinset INSIDE the computer, despite the fact that the opening on the outside is the same size as this item. It works in my older laptop, but not in their new ones. I probably could have returned them, but felt that the cost of return shipping would be too high to make returning them worthwhile. Live and learn! :)

Using it with a camcorder, external Firewire HDD, and 2005-vintage IBM ThinkPad. XP immediately recognized everything, and successfully recorded video from the camera onto the HDD. Cables fit very securely. Appears to be a quality product. Came with a lifetime warranty and 6-ft cable (IEEE-1394 6P/4P).

2 Port Firewire PCMCIA cardbus from Compaq: the quality is really low. I could not get consistant connection between my laptop and my camera. I have to order another card from a different manufacture the 2nd day after I got this one. The 2nd one works fine.

Step One: snip plastic around package. Step Two: plug into PCMIA slot. Step Three: enjoy.
That's all there is to it. Works fine on an older laptop running XP. I really wish everything were this simple. Jerry

I used this device to connect my video camera up to Adobe OnLocation and it worked perfectly and without hassle. I've used it four times since the purchase and has worked with eas every time

I just plugged it in, attached my camera with the cable that was in the package and it started capturing my digital video.
I was surprised with how easy it was and also with the length of the cable that came with the package. It is really long! Great product overall.

Great product and the right price!
Plug and play, literally. I got it to replace another one that I spent $35 on and died after a few uses. The nature of a PCMCIA card is that it's stressed all the time from the pushing and pulling. This one is holding up fine after a few uses. At any price, this one is already outlasting the previous one. Great value!!
