4.0 out of 5 stars Good value for money
Used it a few time on the shootingrange. In good light conditions the scope gives a very clear picture. In artificial light or in the shimmering, the picture becomes less clear. The tripod with the scope is of a poor quality. I replaced it with a new tripod from my local gun store.

1.0 out of 5 stars Low quality
I bought this scope to use it at a shooting range. After I tried it I realized that it is completely useless at ranges more than 100 yards. It has very small view field, it is very difficult to focus. At 200 yards at 40-60 magnification I was not able to focus it and see bullet holes in my targets.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy!, February 2, 2006

I recieved this scope about two days ago and I have been having a lot of fun with it. I live out in the country side where there are a lot of things to look at and this scope has allowed me to look at the Lords creations more closely and clearly! The tripod can get just a little unstable when viewing, but it's not a big deal. You also need a good amount of light to see things clearly at 60x, but the same applies with any scope you get. Save yourself the money and go for this scope. The overall image for from 20x-60x is excellent, especially if there is sufficiant light provided. The powerful laser also helps you find where to put the scope at close images.

3.0 out of 5 stars Laser Failure, July 31, 2007

The scope itself has performed as advertised. However, the laser failed almost immediately. Replaced batteries and can only get intermittent light.

Note: after writing the above review, I returned the laser and the company promptly replaced it. Therefore, an amended review would be 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars mclark spotting scope review, January 6, 2008
By
So far I am happy with this scope. My only disappointment is that I cannot use 60 power for birds that are only about 50 feet away. The highest power I seem to be able to get into focus is approximately 30 power. Otherwise the view is crystal clear and the scope is very easy to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck, December 27, 2009
For the price you will be hard pressed to find a better spotting scope. Very clear images in nearly all lighting conditions from 20-40x. On a cloudy day 60x is a little dim but on a sunny day there is no problem. I have no trouble focusing at any magnification. The body of the scope is nice and solid. I like how the objective lens cover can be pulled out and used for a lens shade. I have had no fogging problems. My laser works and it is relativity easy to 'sight in' with the view of the scope but I really don't see the purpose. I does help in aligning the scope at distances less then 50-60yds but you can't see it (without the scope) past that distance in daylight. The tripod is kinda of cheap but it is light weight and works fine. I really don't see how one could break/bend it unless they kept throwing it at a wall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty nice for the price, December 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Pros-Price, build quality of housing, nice enough case. Cons-soft optics, tripod

I first wrote a review and was a little critical of the scope, but after using it a few more times its starting to grow on me and I think I was just expecting a little too much from it, especially since its my first spotting scope, so here is my revised review.

Like I said, its my first scope, so problems I see may even show up in more expensive scopes. The scope isn't very sharp, but just sharp enough that at 20x you can see .22 holes punched in paper at 50 yds. At 100 yds you can see larger calibers zoomed in a bit, but the more you zoom the softer it gets. We did some longer shoots at around 275 yds at plate sized targets and were using it to locate hits in the dirt beside the targets and it worked OK for that. Its been really handy to take to the range (well, our "range" is an old mine a mile from our house) and saved a lot of walking.

The build quality is excellent and the exterior is rubberized....nice touch. The lens caps are good and the focus is smooth enough. The laser, while being interesting, is of little use unless you are going to shoot right at the edge of dark. I mean really, you are only going to need a scope if you are shooting (or looking at anything) past 50 yds, and at that distance do you really think you could see the laser during the day? The tripod is useless, luckily I have a real tripod for my camera and it does the trick. Plan on getting a full size tripod.

Don't buy this to go birding or any other uses that you will need something fairly sharp and bright, I imagine you would be pretty disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Consider A Different Scope, September 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This NcStar scope was a sad disappointment at the range for anything beyond 25 yards with a .22 or .233 caliber sized hole. The optical quality is really not very good, producing blurry images the higher the magnification being used. The included laser pointer is almost useless outside in full daylight and the included tripod is such low quality that I was concerned about actually using it. The included soft carrying case is alright, holding the scope and tripod well enough.

Long story short I returned it for a refund, which is a fairly painless process and one of the reasons for shopping at Amazon. I recommend Barska CO11502 20-60x60 Waterproof Straight Spotting Scope with Tripod, which was offered on an Amazon "Gold Box" deal for a few bucks more than this one, but knowing what I know now it would worth even the regular price difference.

Not Recommended!
