It is AMAZING!,

Gyllene Tider came from the same area as my mother (halmstad, Halland). At first I thought that they were a bit stupid, but once you understand the lyrics you can start to appreciate the song writing ability of Per Gessle and the reat of the band. This sits happily in my CD collection in between my Led Zeppelin and Guns N' Roses albums and is a refreshing and relaxing album to have. on the first CD, you will get a compilation of all the best Gyllene Tider songs. On the second CD, my favourite classic EP; Billy, about the perils of drugs and broken friendships. two songs to look out for:Billy Get it and be thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gyllene Tider - A Great Swedish Band!,
By aralissia "~aralissia" (North Norway) - See all my reviews

I first was exposed to Gyllene Tider through an exboyfriend of Swedish origin. Their hilarious song "Flickorna på Tv2 (Girls On Tv2)" is about how hot the girls on a Swedish public Tv channel are, and how they make men into animals. This is typical of Gyllene Tider humour. But they can also be serious - as shown by "Billy", a song written from the point of view of Billy's friend and depicting Billy's slow and steady decline into drug addiction. The line "Spring came and Billy was just as gone as the snow" is a line I always laugh at, despite the seriousness of the song. But this collection only gets 3 stars despite the talent of the group. Why, you ask? Because of a HUGE omission. The most famous song by Gyllene Tider, Når Vi Två Blir En (When Two Become One) is not on this collection! This one of the most famous Swedish songs (of the bands that choose to sing in Swedish) of all time....why they left it out I have no idea. Another notable song is the sentimental "Når Alle Vennene Gått Hem (When All Friends Have Gone Home)". Overall this is a good album, with a blend of humour/dance music and sad, relaxing melodies. |
