5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!!!, March 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 20 Favorites (Audio CD)
"20 Favorites" is a glorious mix of some of Eddy Raven's best Capitol Nashville cuts, plus five long-awaited alternate cuts that had been sitting in Capitol's vault for years. The best out of these is "The Twelfth of Never;" Eddy's glorious voice makes this standard into a near religious experience. "A Beautiful Mistake" is another standout.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite all-time song is "Island", May 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: 20 Favorites (Audio CD)
I discovered Eddy Raven in about '84-'85 and I recorded him from Nashville Now when Ralph Emery apprised the audience of Eddy's "footwork" as he sang "Letter to You". Bayou Boys is catchy. I followed him anytime I could and when I heard "Island." I couldn't imagine someone giving me such a beautiful perfect song! To my amazement, I discovered a video of Island and I still wanted more! He is different, a great performer, & stands out from the crowd. He is superb! The CD is Great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Eddy Raven: Fine Country Singer/Songwriter, September 9, 2010
This review is from: 20 Favorites (MP3 Download)
Eddy Raven sings beautifully and writes exceptionally well, too.
These are his hits on Capitol in the late 80s with 2 number ones "Bayou Boys" and "In a Letter to You", plus two other top 10s "Island" and "Sooner or Later". But overall, these songs are not equal to Raven's hits on Elektra and RCA.
There is one jewel, his version of the great standard "Twelfth of Never". When a singer attempts to sing someone else's hit song, he better do it good. Eddy Raven is strong on Johnny Mathis' hit from the late 50's - not quite as good as Mathis - but Raven has a fine rendition and he does it very well. "Zydeco Lady" is another gem. When it comes to country music in the 70's and 80's, Eddy Raven is right up there with the best as a singer and a songwriter.

I was a DJ for 32 years and I'm proud to say I played a lot of Eddy Raven music, even his 70's product on the ABC-Dot and Dimension labels like "Carolina Country Morning", "Ain't She Something Else" and "Dealin' with the Devil". Conway Twitty later had a number one with "Ain't She Something Else". Eddy had a fine version of it, too, but the radio folks missed it because they didn't give an up-and-coming singer airplay like they should have.
