Format: Audio CD
Like their release 30 Number 1 Hits Of The `30s, this one from Collector's Choice is also out of print and only available in used copies, although here the price is more reasonable. Also like that other volume, this should be re-released by the distributor if for no other reason than historical purposes. The sound - especially considering the age of these tracks (82 to 91 years) - is fabulous and it comes with informative liner notes by one of the best in the business, Joseph F. Laredo.

Again, as with the other volume, the track listing does not show the artist(s) concerned, so I have repeated them hear showing those missing details, as well as the label number and year, including how many weeks were spent at # 1:

1. Charmaine - Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians - Carmen Lombardo, vocal - Columnbia 1048 - SEVEN weeks Sept/Oct 1927 - and his first charted hit (he'd only have 218 more to 1954!; 2. Some of These Days - Sophie Tucker with Ted Lewis & His Band - Columbia 826 - FIVE weeks March/April 1927 - this was a new version of her trademark song, first a hit in 1911 for the Last Of The Red-Hot Mamas; 3. No, No, Nora - Eddie Cantor - Columbia 3964 - 2 weeks Nove/Dec 1923; 4. Ain't We Got Fun? - Van & Schenck - Columbia 3412 - 2 weeks Aug/Sept 1921 for the comedy duo of Gus Van and Joe Schenck; 5. Great Day - Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra - Bing Crosby, vocal - 2 weeks Dec 1929-Jan 1930 - his last of 27 # 1 hits in the `20s - 159 hits in all - he would "only" go on to have 62 more to 1954!; 6. Breezin' Along With The Breeze - Johnny Marvin - Columbia 699 - 2 weeks Oct 1926 - he died at age 44 in 1947; 7. Down Hearted Blues - Bessie Smith - accompanied only by Clarence Williams on piano - Columbia 3844 - FOUR weeks June/July 1923 for the greatest Blues vocalist ever; 8. O!
