5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great workout for a working Mom
I love to do yoga but can never find the time. I needed a routine that was comprehensive, but efficient. This is it. It's a routine divided into 2 minutes of breathing, 2 minutes of warm-up, 8 minutes yoga and 8 minutes of meditation. The pictures and text are instructive. 2.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Dated...
When I bought this (used on Amazon) I knew this was a book published quite some time ago and therefore would not be completely up to date, but honestly the directions and photos in this book are really quite poor.

It includes tips for yoga at work, women's issues, etc. I really like this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners!, February 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 20-Minute Yoga Workouts (Paperback)
This book was my introduction to yoga, and it gave me a very solid foundation to grow from. The poses are all explained in detail, and the book features different workouts for different needs, for example, back pain or PMS. I have now given the book to my mother, who has benefitted from it greatly. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who wants to start doing yoga.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for flexibility, balance, & aging!, September 3, 1998

This book will do the trick. Yoga results do not occur overnight. However, begin practicing some of the poses/exercises in this book & within 3-4 months you will notice a marked difference in your appearance & attitude. Stress management is also accomplished through regular Yoga practice. There is a section on toning & shaping, as well as a sectoin for PMS. Alice also includes anecdotes & learnings from her lifetime experiences with & through Yoga.

This review is from: 20-Minute Yoga Workouts (Paperback)
I was skeptical, but this book is great. Easy to read and understand, and well thought out. I am recommending my friends and family get this book because everyone has 20 minutes to spare. I think this book will help to change my life for the better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delivers as promised after a learning curve, October 1, 2005

This book is great for the busy person who really wants to include a full yoga experience in their daily life. The author breaks the 20 minute workout into a 2 minute breath section, 3 minute warmup section, 8 minute yoga posture section, and an 8 minute relaxation/meditation section. It offers a basic workout, a challenging one, plus specialized workouts for during pregnancy, for athletes, for people with low back pain, and more.

I learned the basic workout in parts, since learning it takes much longer than the time to do it once you learn it. Take the time to read the instructions carefully and check your body's position while learning the postures because this is critical to a successful and satisfying practice. Remember to only stretch as far as you can comfortably go. Don't push... patience is rewarded with flexibility, impatience with possible injury.

If possible, schedule this workout for a time when you can extend it if you feel like it. I guarantee you will want to, because it makes you feel so good! Really helps with how your body feels (more flexible and stronger and energetic) and how your mind feels (calmer, more focused, more motivated). Since I did want to extend my practice sometimes, I added postures from another great book, Yoga for 50+.

It is so worth it to add yoga and breathwork and meditation to your life; the rewards are great and many. This book can help you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Joy of Slow and Easy Yoga, June 11, 2010

I feel a bit silly writing this review as this book is so old it is not even in print but just because a book is old does not mean it is not worthwhile.

This is such a book.

I did a routine today and let me tell you, it was one of the best yoga sessions I have ever had. Why? I normally like fast and energetic (or "flowing") yoga in the morning but today I was feeling frenetic and wanted to do it to feel better mentally as well as less tense physically.

And it worked. I did the breathing exercises, then went thru each session and I started feeling better and better. At the end, I felt really renewed and got inspired to re visit and practice pranayams regularly. Breathing exercises are a wonderful tool to feel happier.

Although I know the benefits of pranayama I rarely take the time to do it. I usually just want to start exercising immediately and get my yoga over for the day so I can start my day. I am so eager to start my day I have little patience for the breathing. But today, I was reminded of how beneficial the breathing is. It left me feeling sublime.

There is a lot to say for easy and slow yoga. I am used to harder more advanced workouts but lately I am really enjoying doing yoga slowly and mindfully. It doesn't have to be hard to get wonderful benefits. In fact, going slowly made me want to do more in the long run. At first your mind won't want to do it...it may feel like a chore or boring (like I felt today when I started, I only wanted the benefits) but once you start you wont' want to stop! That is how I felt today. I first wanted to ONLY do the 20 minutes to see how I would feel and guess what? Once I started and did the exercises slowly and mindfully I didn't want to stop. I wanted to do more and more repetitions (what my body needed), add some exercises that I intuitively knew would feel good and my 20 minute workout turned into an hour plus workout...with no forcing. I was in the flow, in bliss, feeling happy, relaxed...and really didn't want to stop. It's the truth.

Next time, I'll try to stick to 20 minutes only see how that makes me feel.

There are many yoga books out there. There are new ones but there also also "oldies but goodies". This book is such a book.

I am keeping my copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, April 15, 2008

This is good read for those unsure about practicing yoga. I like this book the way it is written for the time-strapped westerner. Easy-to-follow explanations and demonstrations. There are even chapters on seated yoga, women's issues and yoga during pregnancy. Almost anyone one can enjoy the benefits of yoga following this book. This is not suppose to be an in-depth study of yoga. But, rather it is designed to get you started and get some benefits for those not ready to commit. Worth the cost. I have had the book for over 8 years and still refer to it. Good job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great easy yoga intro, June 28, 2009

This review is from: 20-Minute Yoga Workouts (Paperback)
For those hesitant wannabe health enthusiasts for whom yoga classes are not an option, this is the perfect intro to yoga, and if you never go beyond the few, easy, well-described movements in this book, and practice on a regular basis, you will still reap amazing benefits. I am 60 years old, and I recommend this book for older beginners who want to initiate a gentle beneficial stretching program. A lot of the problems that we encounter as we age (stiffness, aches and pains) for which the doctor will recommend a pill or a shot, can be absolutely prevented or alleviated with the gentle practice of yoga. This is a wonderful book.

Very clear directions, good pictures, good section on how to use yoga to stretch out even when you're at the office. As with all yoga books and videos, however, I recommend this in addition to some instruction, at least when you first start.
