70's Samba Greats!, September 20, 2005
This review is from: 20 Supersucessos (Audio CD)
Samba artist love to cover each others songs, more often than not their covers are just as cool as the originals. Take the cover version of Voce Abosu on Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66's great LP Vintage '74. Just think that Voce Abosu is one of the greatest Samba songs ever written. I most curious at what the orginal sounded like. So I looked through Antonio Carlos Jobims entire catalog and I couldn't find it for the life of me. I found an LP Antonio Carlos & Jocafi but it wasn't listed in Tom Jobims discography. Little did I know that Antonio Carlos and Antonio Carlos Jobim are two different people. go Figure! Now that that is settled This comp was the only one available , luckily it has Voce Abosu on it
This is a great comp, especially for the price with some steller unkown in the US songs. These guys wrote great melodies in simple structures. Keep in mind these tracks sound very 70's and even get a bit rock singer/songwriter era at times. But you can still play your cuica along with it.
But geez that cover has to Go! The original LP that had Voce Abosu on it a Killer psychadelic cover that is to kill for (the orginal LP on ebay went for $50.00+, and I'm sure that cover had much to do with it!)
