Wow! What a wonderful album. Janet sounds better then ever. I'm a Janet's fan since ''Janet'' 1993. This is a great album to celebrate 20 years of success, popularity, fame, growth... All Janet does is great. My favorite songs are: 1-) So exited. 2-) Take care. 3-) enjoy. 4-) call on me. 5-)With U. The bonus tracks are great! They really make the album a special edition. Congratulations Janet!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bonus tracks, September 29, 2006
This review is from: 20 Years Old (Audio CD)
The import has two bonus tracks. The first, Roll Witchu, is very much like the first half of 20 Y.O. Upper mid tempo with the contemporary production those other songs have. Not my favorite, but it's still a good song and fits in nicely with the album. But having said that, the best of the two songs, IMO, is the second bonus track, Days Go By. It's so good I'd even say this is one of the top 3 songs on this entire album. This song actually sounds more like her 1993 "janet." album than 20 Y.O. It has an easy, smooth sound, and musically probably somewhere inbetween "Again" and "Where Are You Now". It's a shame they put this as only a bonus song since it should be available to all Janet fans. And it's a shame that these imports are so expensive. If you can find this song, I'd highly recommend it to any Janet fans and especially fans of her 1993 album.

This is worth the price tag simply for the bonus tracks. Both tracks are classic Janet tracks. LOVE both of the bonus tracks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Janet 20 Y.O., January 8, 2007

Janet's project 20 y.o. in my opinion is a lot "lighter" than her previous albums. Even from the opening interlude she explains the album to be fun.

20 y.o. is just that! Don't go expecting too much from Janet - this album is about her life and where she is at - havin fun nothing more! The smooth ballads and strong beats display this projects direction, lyrically it tells it like Janet does.

Some of the Tracks on the album such as ENJOY is such a light groove and classic Janet. Her sweet voice is almost smiling through the track. This needs to be a single - even from first listen..you feel it. DAYBREAK is another sweet & light song on the album. Again DAYBREAK is not a cutting edge or strong track, but enough to get it stuck in your head til' next listen!

The released singles CALL ON ME and SO EXCITED really show off the direction Janet, Terry and Jimmy have travelled (not to far from traditional Janet style - but enough to notice). The added flavour of J Dupri - is like a hint of spice. SO EXCITED is a hot track - after a few plays - it is sure to please.

GET IT OUT ME, SHOW ME are next inline for the up-tempo tracks. Again, light and catchy. Take in the lyrics and smile. Water off a ducks back so to speak. The beats are the addictive feel.

I would suggest checking out the Japan release of 20 Y.O. due to the bonus tracks - ROLL WITCHU & DAYS GO BY... but in all I do like this album... it's like the direction of DAMITA JO but more on the higher paralelle direction....!

The vocals are warm, the harmonys are Janet filled and the beats are variety. Not cutting edge nor groundbreaking - but one of Janet's best. I love where the new direction is taking US all.

Till next album.. x

4.0 out of 5 stars Saved by the Bonus Tracks, August 24, 2010

To be honest, this album is completely different from any other Janet album (sometimes not in a good way). Thankfully, the two bonus tracks save the album (that's why I gave the rating 4 stars). Basically, this album marks the 20 year anniversary to Control because the songs pay homage to that album. Unfortunately, the songs are absolutely nothing like the songs from Control. This album has Jermaine Dupri written all over it with the exception of a few songs. Here's the tracklist:

1. 20 (Interlude) - sets the tone for the album. Janet discusses what she's sang about on previous album and states that she just wants to have fun.

Note: The first 5 songs from the album are all hip-hop

2. So Excited (aka SEX to Janatics)feat. Khia - the song is okay. Khia's vocals are clearly not needed as the song is best without her. The song samples Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" with a hip-hop beat. This is the second single from the album.

3. Show Me - the song is decent although not the best. It's very catchy and great for the dancefloor as Janet sings "S H O Me Me" and shows off her rapping skills.

4. Get It Out Me - another Jermaine Dupri produced hip-hop track. Another okay song, but a little too out of Janet's league (this song is suited better for Ciara).

5. Do It To Me - the fourth hip-hop song, but completely different from the first three tracks. This song samples the opening to my jam I Get Lonely and Brenda Russell's version of If Only For One Night. The song is very catchy as well as the beat.

6. This Body - a rock/hip-hop fused song. Janet comes off a little vain as she's singing about how a guy can't stop looking at her body.

7. 20 Part 2 (Interlude) - sets the tone for the latter half of the album

8. With U - a pretty nice song. I guess it's supposed to be reminiscent of Let's Wait Awhile (although the two songs sound completely different). A mid-tempo jam that supposed to take place after LWA.

9. Call On Me Feat. Nelly - the first single from the album. A mid-tempo song that features Nelly singing (once again, the song is better off with just Janet singing). The bridge samples Tell Me If You Still Care by the SOS Band. Pretty decent, but not the best.

10. 20 Part 3 (Interlude)

11. Daybreak - one of the highlights of the album. Very reminiscent of Escapade from Rhythm Nation surrounded by a hip-hop beat.

12. Enjoy - another highlight! A mid-tempo jam with Janet singing about how we should enjoy everyday and enjoy life; one of my favorites.

13. 20 Part 4 (Interlude) - get ready for the sex jams

14. Take Care - a nice-and-slow sex jam with Janet singing about you-know-what. I love Janet, but you know she's gonna have a sex jam or two on her albums.

15. Love 2 Love - another sex jam very reminiscent of Prince's Do Me Baby and Usher's Do It To Me.

16. 20 Part 5 (Outro) - the outro of the album. With this edition of 20 Y.O., Janet says "Bonus" at the end.

Bonus Tracks

17. Roll Witchu - Now we get to the best part of the album: Bonus tracks!!! A great, catchy mid-tempo song with an ATL vibe. The song reminds me a little of Twenty Foreplay.

18. Days Go By - a nice switch to close the album. This song is definitely for the steppers! Very reminiscent of R. Kelly's steppers cuts (Step In The Name Of Love & Happy People to name a few). Janet sings about how she misses her lover and that she's lost without him.

Overall, the album is mediocre and definitely not Janet's best work, but the Bonus Tracks saves the entire album. Although a little pricey, this is an album for the fans. Newcomers to Janet's music should listen to the samples and read the reviews before purchasing because 20 Y.O. doesn't showcase Janet's amazing work.

Lil' Radio's Top 5 Jams:

1. Roll Witchu

2. Days Go By

3. Enjoy

4. Take Care

5. Daybreak
