Em is the saving grace of this album as far as emcees go... of course the production is solid but the lyrics are lacking and dated(self serving and ego centric). One can always argue, "yeah but it's a classic"... sure, any album that received as much airplay as this one is a classic(hell Bobby Brown is classic), but that doesn't make it amazing. What is amazing is the credit people are willing to hand out to these commercial rappers just because their record labels own the airwaves. I'm not saying I don't like a few songs on this album, but front to back it is fairly average in comparison to underground West Coast Hip Hop. I give it three stars because thats the front to back truth of the matter(now, in 2001 that might have been a different story), that being said, I do like Dre and his entire crew much more than the "we're so cool" rappers of the new mainstream drowning out our radios with their repetitive malarkey. Hopefully these guys make a swift comeback, but don't lie and say they're old work is better than it really is. You want to hear a good representation of west coast Hip Hop, check out Blu and Exile "Below the Heavens"... thats a way better album by far.

Literally, that is enough said. This album, like all Dre albums (oh yeah, there is only one other), is a classic West Coast rap album. Flawless production from start to finish, entertaining lyrics (do not look for inspired, socially-conscious lyrics), and 15+ tracks. Any hip-hop fan must have this album. If you are from Cali and you don't have this album, shame on you.

2001. It speaks for itself.,

What more can you say about 2001 other then it being a cornerstone of West Coast Hip-Hop. A work of art from the one and only Rapper, Record Producer, Dr. Dre. The album has went platinum many times over, the tracks on here will live on for years. It's a legendary album. 'Still D.R.E.' is almost the anthem of So Cal. The intro instantly makes most people say in their heads "Ohh S**t". It's the prize at the bottom of the cereal box, the diamond in the sandbox. The only album that could ever surpass it could be Detox. But until then, bump 2001 and join the rest of the Hip-Hop world while we all wait patiently (or impatiently) for Dre's next multi-platinum album.
